Yoga 2 Pro 7260AC Win8.1 64 Slooooooow

I have seen many posts about this with lots of different problems. Here's mine. I upgraded from the 7260N card, looking to take advantage of 5GHz connectivity.

Recently installed the 7260AC card in my Yoga 2 Pro. Works great @ 2.4GHz. That means ~50MB/s download. Switching to 5 GHz yields slightly higher (maybe 55MB/s)....for a little while, then the connection drops and resets. Again and again and again, just about every 5 seconds. Why? This makes Internet use impossible

Compared to another Dell laptop (Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205) in the same house, at the same physical location, gets steady 50MB/s at 2.4GHz and 95-100MB/s @ 5GHz.

I have installed the 17.0.5.8 driver and am frustrated. What am I doing wrong? Should I consider a different card? I pay for 100MB/s speeds and want to be able to make use of it.

Disable USPAD on advanced options and you should get your 100 Mbps internet.

I disabled USPAD, and now cannot connect to the Internet at all using 5 GHz. 2.4 is Ok.

Replicate this setting and see if it works:

No changes. 55Mb/s @ 2.4, down to 30Mb/s @ 5. But only once. Within 30 seconds, connection status goes to "Limited" and I lose the connection. No problems at 2.4.

Remove all traces of Intel drivers to let Microsoft drivers (16.0.0.2 ?) be installed. Test performance with that driver.

I can't find a Microsoft Driver that you reference. Any search for a wireless driver leads me back to Intel. Is this card compatible with Windows 8.1 or no?

It's included already on a fresh install of Windows 8.1.

In order to load the Microsoft drivers, you must remove all of Intel wireless drivers. To do this, uninstall the driver on device manager, making sure that the "delete driver software for this device" is selected. Then look at the version provider. If it's still Intel, repeat the process until the driver provider says Microsoft.

There are many other things that can be affecting your connectivity. I would recommend checking the following:

1. Make sure the Security encryption is set as WPA2-AES or WPA2-TKIP.
2. Update the router's firmware to latest. Here you have some more information:

1. Verify there are no other devices connected at 2.4GHz to the Wireless LAN when connecting for testing purpose.

Hi Kevin,

Router Firmware is the latest available (ASUS RT-N65U).

Security is set to WPA2-AES.

2.4 GHz is not a problem. Steady and decent speeds. 5.0GHz is rocky. Frequent re-sets and connection drops.

Have you tried another Router? If you try connecting to another router is the issue still happening?

Also, can you try installing the latest firmware for the router? They released a new one last week:

By the Way, You mentioned before that another computer (Dell Laptop) with N 6205 is working fine. What is the Operating System running on that computer?

Thanks Kevin I will update the router firmware when I am back next week.

I haven't tried another router...because that isn't the point. The router is good. I get fast speeds from other laptops, so I should be able to get the same on the Yoga 2 Pro. The Dell is running Win7Pro.
