Hallo,
i need help regarding updating drivers for W-lan adapter Intel Centrion Advanced N-6205. Updates for the version 15.16.0.2 are discontinued. Is it possible to install similar W-lan adapters that could fit to my Elite book 8460p with Windows 10p?
Thanx for helping
David

The Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 card plugs into the PCIe Half Mini Wireless Card (a.k.a. M.1) connector. As you can see from my (attached) cheatsheet, only one card that plugs into this connector has not been discontinued, namely the Dual-Band Wireless-AC 7265. This card is available for US$24 at https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MV3N7UO.
Now, having said that, you need to ask your laptop manufacturer if this card will work. Some of the more-slimy manufacturers have implemented Inclusion/Exclusion Lists in their BIOS that will prevent you from using different cards like this.
Hope this helps,

hey n_scott_pearson!
Thank you for the fast answer
I checked out amazon and ebay. There is the information, that this card " May or may not work with Hp and Lenovo notebooks" and "no include HP / Compaq / Lenovo / IBM".
i wonder if i should just give it a try anyway and put it into my laptop. What do you think?

hey again.
i have spoken with HP support. The dual band adapter you suggested is compatible to my bios version, but unfortunately not to Windows 10 pro. I have to uninstall Windows 10 and than install Windows 7 to make the dual band adapter work. I will try that
Cheers!

No, not true! This adapter works just fine with any version of Windows 10.
As you can see here: https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/83635/intel-dual-band-wireless-ac-7265.html, this is still an active product (not discontinued). As you can see here: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/83635/Intel-Dual-Band-Wireless-AC-7265, this adapter is supported by Intel's latest Wireless and Bluetooth driver packages (22.20.0)
