Fortran Compiler for Xeon 31S1P

Hello everyone,

The university lab I am working for owns a cluster equipped with Intel Xeon Phi 31S1P accelerators which was bought back in 2013 but never used. Right now we are trying to revive these machines but the problem is that we don't know which compiler is compatible with these chips so we can develop applications in all the available modes of operation. We are interested in a Fortran compiler. Could you please inform me which compiler suite would be compatible with the specific hardware so we can exploit all the capabilities? Also, as a student in the university would it be possible to install the suggested compiler with a student license? Finally, is there a phone number I can call in order to get support about the specific issue?

Thank you in advance

Hi Vasilis,

Thanks for your patience as we were looking into the issue. Please note, among the changes introduced in  Intel® Parallel Studio XE 2018 version, support for the Intel® Xeon Phi™ x100 Product Family (Products formerly Knights Corner) had been removed. You may also refer to Page 9 of the below release note.

The product version 2018 itself is old and on the verge of being completely unsupported. Due to this, most of the updates of the product version have undergone deprecation and have been removed from our download repositories. For more information on unsupported product versions, you may visit the below link.

We would also like to let you know that Intel® has recently transitioned from Intel® Parallel Studio XE as a free tool (student license) to providing Intel® oneAPI Toolkits as a free tool.

We cannot recommend any unsupported product version of the legacy product. However, if you require any available product version of the legacy product then please know, the only way left, to avail Intel® Parallel Studio XE suite is by purchasing a commercial or academic license for Intel® oneAPI Toolkits. You may contact our resellers or visit our webstore for more information regarding the purchase.

Note: If you have a product version of choice, please know we would require a valid product license to search for the unsupported old, product version in our archives. We would do our best to find the product. However, please know even then we cannot guarantee its availability since it is an old product version.

If you already have a student license, however, it has expired then you may email your serial number and contact information to software_tools_request@intel.com to request a license. For more information on this, you may refer to the below link.

Have a pleasant day ahead.

Hi Soumya,

From my understanding, reading the manual you attached, Intel Parallel Studio 2017 will support the Intel Xeon Phi 31S1P accelerators. Is that correct?  If not could you please let me know which version can do that? Assuming that we would like to get that version, first we need to purchase an academic license for the oneAPI Toolkits and then contact Intel in order to search for the old version, am I understanding well? Finally, I would like to ask you if the academic license is suitable for installation in a cluster with multiple cores.

I really appreciate your help

Vasilis
