Issue with Intel oneapi and driver install for Arcgpu on Ubuntu 24.04.1 via wsl

New to Linux wondering if anyone knows how to fix my issue, I have seen other posts but I was unable to resolve this on my own.

Ubuntu 24.04.01

A750

i5-11400

I started off with trying to install the Client GPUs Level 0 and OpenCL graphics drivers from https://dgpu-docs.intel.com/driver/client/overview.html under the header Installing Client GPUs on Ubuntu Desktop 24.04 LTS.

This resulted in

W: GPG error: https://apt.repos.intel.com/oneapi all InRelease: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY BAC6F0C353D04109
E: The repository 'https://apt.repos.intel.com/oneapi all InRelease' is not signed.
N: Updating from such a repository can't be done securely, and is therefore disabled by default.
N: See apt-secure(8) manpage for repository creation and user configuration details.
E: Could not open lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock-frontend - open (13: Permission denied)
E: Unable to acquire the dpkg frontend lock (/var/lib/dpkg/lock-frontend), are you root?

Then if I try installing the oneAPI Base ToolKit using apt it says no PUBKEY or that it cant find the package.

I want to use sycl to accelerate LLMs and learn how to train and deploy my own models. I was also interested in just having a environment for me to practice and learn C++ , and Python. Should I just run baremetal linux? Is WSL even able to work for my use case. I just want to have best performance while using windows as my main OS, I thought WSL would maybe be better than a VM. I would prefer to have access to windows to run other apps at the same time.

Thanks

Hi Luke,

Could you please share the following details with us?

  1. The exact version of the Intel® Toolkit you're trying to install.
  2. Any other versions of Intel® Parallel Studio XE or Intel® oneAPI already installed on the system.
  3. A screenshot of the error message (if applicable).

Additionally, you can refer to the link below if you're encountering difficulties during the installation process:

Link: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/docs/oneapi/installation-guide-linux/2025-0/apt-005.html#BASE-APT

To assist you further, we would require these details.
