Thank you for your quick response.  Certainly, we can try your solution.  However, I would note the following:

1. My concern about uninstalling the SDK was based on the paragraph KNOWN ISSUES in the online document "Intel Fortran Compiler System Requirements, oneAPI 2024 Release", Updated 11/16/2023, Version 2024.0.0. This paragraph reads in part:

"There is a known issue integrating Intel software developer tools (Intel oneAPI Base Toolkit, Intel HPC Toolkit, or their component
products) into Microsoft Visual Studio 2022 (17.7 or higher) on offline systems with the Windows Performance Toolkit (Win11SDK_
WindowsPerformanceToolkit) installed. To work around the issue, uninstall the Windows Performance Toolkit before installing Intel
developer tools."

When we followed these instruction, we were able to install the Intel software which we had not been able to do previously, although the Intel Fortran compilers still did not integrate with VS.  Yet, you seem to indicate that we should not have uninstalled the SDK, saying that we uninstalled the wrong thing. What is the reconciliation between the paragraph above and your statement?  Has the problem been corrected by later versions of the Intel or Microsoft software?

2. Another user Dim-Dim in a post of 10-05-2023 entitled "why full offline installation need internet?" eventually received the reply on 1-30-2024 from Devorah_H_Intel that stated:

"Microsoft fixed it in VS 2022, version 17.9 Preview 2, we checked with the latest preview version on our side and confirm that issue is resolved."

Our issue, like that of Dim-Dim, has been that while we have had no problem installing the software on a computer with an Internet connection, we have been completely unsuccessful over several weeks in doing so offline on a network which is not allowed to have an Internet connection.

Do we, in fact, need to install VS 17.9 Preview 2 or later?  I checked a day or so ago and found that VS 17.9 is now up to Preview 5. But though we could possible acquire it, this is not a production version of Visual Studio.  How long might we have to wait for the release of the production version of VS 17.9?

3. Based on your post "The Easy and Fast Way to Install JUST Fortran with Intel oneAPI", I had already moved away from installing the oneAPI Toolkit to only installing the Intel Fortran Compilers executable.  My next step was to be (as you suggested) to install only the MKL software rather than the Base Toolkit as the MKL software was all that was needed from the Base Toolkit.

The question remains to what extent we need to be concerned with items 1 and 2 above before following your suggestion about trying yet again to reinstall the software. Our attempts to install the Intel Fortran compilers and integrate them with Visual Studio offline have been a most exasperating exercise so that we would like at least a small amount of encouragement that our next attempt will succeed.

Richard

I see.

I don't know what to tell you.  you can try to Uninstall the Intel Fortran compiler and reinstall it again, leaving VS and the other Intel oneapi tools installed.

I will move this over to our Installation team for their help.

Hi Richard, Could you please share the below details with us?

  • Version of Microsoft Visual Studio installed along with it's build version.
  • OS build on which you are installing the product.
  • Other versions of Intel® Parallel Studio XE or Intel® oneAPI already installed on the system.
  • Is the installer an online or an offline package?
  • Screenshot of the errors (if any).
  • Installation Log files.
    • The default path for a log file for a oneAPI installation is: C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\oneAPI\logs

To assist you further, we would require these details.

Farther below is information requested by Intel support.  The log files (see 6 below) indicate that the integration of the Intel software with Visual Studio failed because the installation of Visual Studio 2022 was incomplete.  I will only be able to transmit the Intel log files themselves if and when I obtain permission to do so.

We believe that the problem is rather an offline installation problem with either the Intel or the Microsoft software as we have had no problems with installing and integrating the software (and earlier compatible versions of the two pieces of software) when we have an Internet connection. Our present application is on a network that prohibits an Internet connection.

Information requested by Intel support:

1. Version of Microsoft Visual Studio installed along with its build version.
Answer: Microsoft Visual Studio Professional 2022 (64 bit), Version 17.8.3 (build version ?)

2. Operating system (OS) build on which you are installing the product.
Answer: Microsoft Windows 10 Enterprise (64 bit), Version 21H2, Build 19044.3930

3. Other versions of Intel Parallel Studio XE or Intel oneAPI already installed on the system.
Answer: None

4. Is the installation an online or offline package?
Answer: Offline packages.

5. Screenshot of the errors (if any).
Answer: No errors written to screen.

6. Installation log files.  Default path for a oneAPI installation is: C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\oneAPI\logs
Answer: Found the following log files in the indicated folder

(1) installer.install.intel.oneapi.lin.fortran-compiler.product,v=2024.0.2+25.2024.01.24.14.07.33.398962.log
which corresponds to the attempt to install Intel Fortran compilers by executing the file:
w_fortran-compiler_p_2024.0.2.27_offline.exe

(2) installer.install.intel.oneapi.win.basekit.product,v=2024.0.1+44.2024.01.08.14.53.55.894120.log
which corresponds to the attempt to install the Intel Base ToolKit by executing the file:
w_BaseKit_p_2024.0.1.45_offline.exe

Hi Richard,  please know that the issue you're experiencing is due to the compatibility of Visual Studio. To assist you further in resolving the issue, please follow the troubleshooting steps outlined below:

Post the successful installation of Microsoft Visual Studio 2022 Version 17.7.5, kindly install Intel® Fortran Compiler and Intel® oneAPI Math Kernel Library for Windows (offline installer) by referring to the below links:

Link: Intel Fortran Compiler Classic and Intel Fortran Compiler for Windows

We will try your suggested fix as soon as the network admin has the time to do so.  One concern is whether we have access to the older version (17.7.5) of Visual Studio 2022 that you indicate is needed.  I would ask when following your instructions if we can ignore the following caveat:

Under KNOWN ISSUES in the online document "Intel Fortran Compiler System Requirements, oneAPI 2024 Release", Updated 11/16/2023, Version 2024.0.0 there is a paragraph that reads in part:

"There is a known issue integrating Intel software developer tools (Intel oneAPI Base Toolkit, Intel HPC Toolkit, or their component
products) into Microsoft Visual Studio 2022 (17.7 or higher) on offline systems with the Windows Performance Toolkit (Win11SDK_
WindowsPerformanceToolkit) installed. To work around the issue, uninstall the Windows Performance Toolkit before installing Intel

developer tools."

I ask because Visual Studio Version 17.7.5 would seem to qualify as version 17.7 or higher.  In fact, I had asked in an earlier email if this admonishment indicated the need to also uninstall the "Windows SDK Addon" program as well.

Please address the following questions before we proceed with your proposed resolution of our issue.

1. The link you provided discussing compatibility of Intel and Visual Studio software, namely:
"https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/developer/articles/reference-implementation/intel-compilers-compatibility-with- microsoft-visual-studio-and-xcode.html" does not state whether validation testing had been performed for offline software installation.
QUESTION: Is the compatibility information only applicable to computers with an Internet connection?
As I and others have repeatedly emphasized, our failures are with offline (no Internet connection) software installation, while having no issues with online installation of identical software.

2. Your resolution ignores the paragraph KNOWN ISSUES in the online document "Intel Fortran Compiler System Requirements, oneAPI 2024 Release", Updated 11/16/2023, Version 2024.0.0 which reads in part:

"There is a known issue integrating Intel software developer tools (Intel oneAPI Base Toolkit, Intel HPC Toolkit, or their component products) into Microsoft Visual Studio 2022 (17.7 or higher) on offline systems with the Windows Performance Toolkit (Win11SDK_WindowsPerformanceToolkit) installed. To work around the issue, uninstall the Windows Performance Toolkit before installing Intel developer developer tools."

Under the false assumption that the Windows Performance Toolkit was installed as part of Visual Studio and despite the fact that the names were different, I most recently mistakenly uninstalled the "Windows Software Development Kit - Windows 10.022621.2428" instead, software which Ron Green has told me is needed. Thus, my most recent email expressing concern about this issue was in error in my particular case. QUESTION: Is it likely or unlikely that the Windows Performance Toolkit will be present on a user's computer? Of course, best to check.

3. Another user Dim-Dim in a post of 10-05-2023 entitled "why full offline installation need internet?" eventually received the reply on 1-30-2024 from Devorah_H_Intel that stated:  "Microsoft fixed it in VS 2022, version 17.9 Preview 2; we checked with the latest preview version on our side and confirm that issue is resolved."

Mr. Dim-Dim's issue, like ours, was that he could not do an offline installation of VS/Intel software.  Following Devorah H.'s post, Visual Studio 2022, version 17.9 continued development through preview 5, until the production version 17.9.0 was released on 2/13/24.
QUESTION: What did Microsoft fix in VS and is that fix applicable and presently needed for offline installation and integration of VS/Intel software?
