I have 'inherited' some FORTRAN code and am having some basic configuration issues (I think). I have used a previous version of MS Visual Studio but never with this FORTRAN compiler, so I don't have much/any experience getting things set up.
As far as I can tell from perusing this site, it appears that MS Visual Studio (version 2022, 17.7.4) cannot recognize the Intel FORTRAN compiler (oneAPI HPC 2024.0.1) because under 'Tools/Options/' in Visual Studio, there is no option to select 'Intel Compilers and Libraries'. It is certainly possible that there were errors in installing either Visual Studio or the Intel oneAPI (or both)--I didn't do the installation(s), but could have them repeated if necessary. I know that VS was installed first, followed by the Intel SW. Unfortunately, this is an installation that cannot be connected to the internet. However, I think that the 'Visual Studio 2022 Option' was selected when installing the Intel oneAPI/FORTRAN compiler.
I would really appreciate any help that readers of this forum could provide--thanks so much in advance!

Thanks so much for your reply--I opened the 'Visual Studio Installer' from Windows Start and selected 'Modify' ... under 'Workloads', it appears that the box is/was checked for the 'Desktop Development with C++' option ... is that what I should be looking for?

Yes. Now I suggest uninstalling the Intel product and then reinstalling. Pay close attention to any messages that come up - don't just click through them. Also, if you want only the Fortran compiler and not the other stuff in the toolkit, see Solved: The Easy and Fast Way to Install JUST Fortran with Intel® oneAPI - Intel Community

Steve,
well, I opted for the 'install only the FORTRAN compiler(s) with Intel oneAPI' option ... unfortunately, it is sort of difficult for me to send you the complete installation log, but it seemed to fail when it tried to run ......\VisualStudio.Setup.Service\VSIXInstaller.exe with exit code -2146233088, which produced an overall 'SuccessWithFail' status at the end of the installation ...
I was wondering whether you had ever seen this message before? I still cannot see the FORTRAN compiler from Visual Studio (2022, version 17.7.4). However, I did notice the below 'known issue' with the Intel FORTRAN compiler that I just found, which could apply (?):

If your system has an Internet connection, AND you do not have WIndows Performance Toolkit installed then this message does not apply to you.
Do you have this system on the Internet?
Do you have WIndows Performance Toolkit installed?
I will move this over to our Installation help team's Forum.

There is a known issue with offline installation.
Microsoft fixed it in VS 2022 17.9 Preview 2, we checked with the latest preview version on our side and confirm that the issue is resolved.
see this thread for more details

Microsoft has a fix in VS 2022 17.9 Preview 2 or newer. These are "Preview" builds of Visual Studio, not the official release. 17.9.0 will release soon (we don't know when, but soon). Be ready to upgrade when it releases OR if you can use the Preview Releases, go here to download and install
Before you install, you should Uninstall Intel oneAPI tools BEFORE you install VS 2022 17.9 Preview ( Preview 5 is the newest). Install VS 2022 17.9, selecting to Install 'Desktop Development with C++' also (it is not default).
Then re-install Intel oneAPI Fortran or HPC Toolkit.

I would, yes. Uninstall Intel tools. Then uninstall 17.7.4
Install VS 2022 v17.9 Preview 5 with the Desktop Dev for C++. THEN install Intel oneapi.
Just cleans things up and make the new install go smoothly, usually. Your projects will not be affected.

Hi Joe, please know that the issue you're experiencing is due to the compatibility of Visual Studio. To assist you further in resolving the issue, please follow the troubleshooting steps outlined below:
- Open the Control panel and click on Uninstall a program below the Programs box.
- Find "Microsoft Visual Studio 2022 17.7.4," then click the right button and uninstall.
- Once, the uninstallation is complete, kindly download the compatible Visual Studio version (i.e.: Visual Studio 2022 Version: 17.7.5)
- Please note that our engineering team has tested and documented the compatible Visual Studio versions and their build numbers for integration with the suite & toolkit versions.
- Intel® Compilers Compatibility:
- Make sure you select the 'Desktop development with C++' component while installing the Visual Studio.
Post the successful installation of Microsoft Visual Studio 2022 Version 17.7.5, kindly install Intel® HPC Toolkit
for Windows (offline installer) by referring to the below link:
Kindly let us know the outcome.
