A little over seven months ago, Gabriel Gurule started as an intern at Intel’s Rio Rancho site and kick started his on-the-job learning and growth in a real-world environment.

As part of the site’s Student Work Program, Gabriel has worked first-hand on important projects, has had opportunities for networking across Intel, and has had a hand in supporting Intel’s purpose to create the world-changing technology we all rely on.

Intel’s Student Work Program is a continuation of Intel’s broader internship program and offers year-round and short-term internships at our New Mexico site. Announced in 2021 with the University of New Mexico, New Mexico State University, New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, Central New Mexico Community College, and San Juan College, this internship program is helping to provide hands-on, real-world experiences for students and preparing them to enter into the workforce at graduation.

It's a mission that rings true for Gabriel as he continues his mechanical engineering studies at the University of New Mexico and works at Intel as a manufacturing engineering intern.

“The teams you work on are amazing and will constantly support you and your growth as an intern,” Gabriel explained. “With all the technology being created and semiconductors being at the center of it all, having a career or internship with Intel helps ensure you are on the forefront of creating this tech.”

Interns like Gabriel also have access to Intel resources for learning and development, including additional training courses that can provide new learning opportunities: “By using the training courses available through Intel, I have been able to grow my skills in programming and other topics that I can’t get as extra classes due to my schedule.”

But interning at Intel is not only an opportunity to grow technical skills, it’s also an opportunity to dig deeper into Intel’s employee offerings, find mentors to help you along the way, and expand your network. One way Gabriel has done so is through intern cohorts during Intel’s summer intern program, where groups of interns get together, get to know each other, and plan activities together.

For Gabriel, some of his favorite parts about working at Intel (so far!) are his team’s flexibility with his schedule when classes are in session and feeling a sense of community with other interns – something that his intern cohort expanded on in the summer through volunteering in the community together.

But the absolute best part for him? “My team. I work closely with them, and I can ask questions about my work, knowing they will always be there to help.”
