Hear from some of the incredible women engineers leading the way for innovation at Intel India.
Be it a fresh-out-of-college beginner or an industry veteran, an executive leader or a young intern – women are rewriting what success looks like, both at home and at work. As we celebrate Women’s History Month, we spoke to some of the remarkable women innovators and inspirers of Intel India.
From a curious thinker to an Intel India Inventor Award (2022) winner
“I have always been interested in technology and how it can change the world. As a kid, I was fascinated by how electronic devices work and how wireless communications would connect people at far distances. As I grew up, I realized that with the help of technology, we could solve real-world problems and improve people’s lives. Wireless is one such domain where I saw the potential to utilize my theoretical knowledge to solve practical problems, and that inspired me to pursue a career in this field.”
If I could give my younger self advice, “I would say – stay curious. Don’t be afraid to take calculated risks and try new things. Some of the most successful innovations in technology came from taking a chance and thinking out of the box. “
From a curious experimenter to a principal engineer
“I was very inquisitive as a child and used to do experiments on my own without knowing they already had established laws of science! When I was in the seventh grade, my dad got me a book called “Physics Can be Fun” by Y Perelman from a book exhibition. In hindsight, it was the tipping point of what would become a long and rewarding career in technology. That book was so interesting I became convinced to pursue my future studies in science, particularly physics and its application.”
If I could give my younger self advice, “I would encourage her to speak up without fear.”
A merit holder then, a patent holder now
“I have always been interested in science since my childhood days, especially physics and chemistry, and I used to gain high marks in those subjects. So, I slowly started wondering how the subjects I learned in school would be useful in practical life. What is the connection between the two? That’s how I made up my mind to pursue my career in the field of engineering and technology.”
If I could give advice to my younger self, I would say, “Your career is in your hands. Trust yourself and be positive to jump into new opportunities.”
When the Technology Star was in the making
“I have an immense zeal for science and math since my childhood. I started participating in various math competitions from the time I was just seven years of age. This innate habit metamorphosed into an everyday task when I began my profession in engineering and technology.”
If I could give advice to my younger self, I would say, “Get yourself a role model and pick up a mentor. Success will follow only after perseverance and immense patience.”
Pursuing the passion
“The mentors and the ecosystem I got during my academic years at IIT-Delhi cultivated my research and innovative mindset. Upon joining Intel’s Wireless Innovation (WINS) team, I received the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies and collaborate with some of the brightest minds in the industry. This experience helped me develop my skills and knowledge further, as well as gave me the confidence to take on new challenges and pursue my passion for innovation.”
If I could give my younger self advice at the beginning of my career, I would say, “Be consistent in brainstorming ideas with colleagues from different areas of expertise to explore possibilities and reach out to mentors proactively for guidance.”
A whiz kid then, a wonder woman now
“My interests in mathematics and science were nurtured at a very young age. I was very good at solving complex mathematical issues and would refuse to settle down till I found the root cause of any problem and, subsequently, its solution. I was always inquisitive about the concept and techniques behind things and solving problems. Engineering propelled my passion.”
If I could give my younger self advice, I would tell her, "See that crises or problems are the sources of opportunities for innovation. Take the opportunity to analyze, understand the bigger purpose, learn the lesson, strategize, adopt, adapt and move forward. Reach out to people for support. Enjoy the journey on the path, as life is short and beautiful.”
