In preparation for LearningFest, a half-day internal conference where Intel employees discuss essential career skills, we asked Sreeramana Mavilla about his experiences with Gigs, one of the opportunities available through Intel’s learning and development resources.

Currently an engineering manager with the Client Computing Group CPE C4S Team, Sreeramana Mavilla is responsible for building applications that accelerate Client, Server, and IoT product development as well as providing Best-Known-Configuration releases.

During his career at Intel, Sreeramana has become an active pursuer of Gigs, temporary work assignments available through Intel’s Career and Development resources designed to help you explore other roles, gain new skills, and challenge yourself.

I am amazed by the opportunities inside Intel, and Gigs are one of the best examples of Intel’s rich culture for career growth and learning opportunities for employees.”

Some of Sreeramana’s key experiences from Gigs included expanding knowledge on different groups within Intel and learning skills from outside his current role. When you take a Gig role, you’ll learn about networking, how to manage your time effectively, and how to adapt to a new team’s culture as you take on the responsibilities of your new role. You’ll also benefit from working with people in the new role, such as how they approach and solve problems, influencing skills, negotiation skills, and cross-functional development.

Through Gigs, Sreeramana contributed to refining Intel’s vision, mission, and strategic objectives while acting as the technical assistant to a vice president. His responsibilities included data analysis, content creation, strategic investigations, market analysis, value propositions for existing product lines, and business analytics.

Today, as the chief of staff in the Accelerated Computing Systems and Graphics Group (AXG), Sreeramana focused on operational efficiency, driving new missions, strategies, processes, and the group’s culture.

While working as a cloud architect for the Emerging Growth and Incubation (EGI) group, Sreeramana was responsible for designing and developing benchmarks for cloud services—a task begun by a start-up inside Intel—to help customers choose the right cloud services for their needs.

With your contributions in Gigs, you are not only building yourself but also helping to build Intel’s growth beyond your current role. Gigs are fun and challenging but will generate an incredible amount of experience in a short period of time that should be a springboard for your career.
