Essential infrastructure services including virtual switching, security, and storage consume a significant number of CPU cycles that are better used for running applications. Last year, during Architecture Day 2021, Intel introduced the concept of Infrastructure Processing Units (IPUs) to accelerate network infrastructure and to free up CPU cores for revenue-generating applications. IPUs are foundational building blocks for Intel’s Datacenter of the Future concept and, in fact, IPUs are already enabling cloud service providers to customize and accelerate datacenter infrastructure functions while significantly improving datacenter utilization. Three informative sessions at the Intel Vision conference–taking place on May 10 and 11 at the Marriott Gaylord Texan and Convention Center outside of Dallas, Texas–will provide more insight into the advantages of IPUs and a look at the future of Intel IPUs.

The first Intel Vision session, titled “Datacenter of the Future: Efficient, Secure, and Sustainable” [DTCC010], includes a customer testimonial containing some extraordinary quantitative data based on real-world usage that makes an extremely compelling case for IPU use in datacenters, today and tomorrow. This session takes place on Tuesday, May 10 at 4:30 PM to 5:00 PM CDT.

During a second Intel Vision session titled “Edge-Native Business Transformation: How Software Defined and Programmable Platforms Will Fuel Your Innovation” [BI_NEX_001], Sachin Kaati, Intel’s Chief Technology Officer for the Network & Edge Group, will discuss Intel’s current IPU portfolio including FPGA-based IPUs with Intel® Xeon® D processors and Intel® Agilex™ FPGAs, and ASIC-based IPUs. He will also discuss the future of IPUs in the cloud to the edge. This session takes place on Wednesday, May 11 at 10:15 AM to 11:00 AM CDT.

In addition, the session titled “Infrastructure Programming” [OESS008] will cover how Intel is enabling open infrastructure software through the Infrastructure Programmers Development Kit (IPDK) and the Open Programmable Infrastructure initiative to program IPUs, DPUs and Ethernet switches, empowering virtualized cloud services. This session takes place on Tuesday, May 10 at 10:45 AM to 11:15 AM CDT.

Sessions will be recorded for later viewing if you cannot attend in person.
