ECI kernel panic when enable ftrace utility

Hello,

I would like to enable ftrace utility for my Intel ECI 3.0.1 (Distribution: Debian11 (Bullseye) , Linux kernel type: Real-time PREEMPT_RT,  Linux kernel version: 5.10.140-rt73-intel-ese-standard-lts-rt+), but when I execute these following two commands, a kernel panic occurred.
  # echo 'p:ndprobe d_splice_alias inode=%di' > /sys/kernel/debug/tracing/kprobe_events
  # echo '1' > /sys/kernel/debug/tracing/events/kprobes/ndprobe/enable

On the other hand, kernel panic do not happen with Debian 11(kernel version: 5.10.0-18-amd64).

So I would like to ask why does a kernel panic occur in ECI? And is there a solution?

Best regards

Bui

Hi,

could you check whether your kernel configuration enables the ftrace, as in step 2?

You may refer to this documentation.

Hello Iffa,

Thank you for your reply!

I have checked my kernel configuration. All kernel parameters required for ftrace in step 2 are enabled.
Please find the attached file for your reference.

Hi,

could you:

  1. try the same steps on the latest ECI release (3.2)?
  2. share the hardware specs for this system.
