E810-C NIC firmware not upgrading after successful execution of nvm

We are unable to update the firmware for Intel Ethernet Controller E810-C for SFP in one of our servers.

We download and installed the latest ice driver (1.14.9) .The driver was updating properly and was verified to be 1.14.9 using ethtool -i enp1s0f0. We also tried with older driver versions like the ice  1.12.7 .

We were not able to run the PTP4L and PHC2SYS on the NIC since it did not have any HW timestamps. So we download latest firmware for the NIC and ran the nvmupdate64e binary. After execution the status shows 'pending reboot' and not 'up to date' .

Why is the firmware not updating even after soft reboot and hard reboot? The PTP HW timestamps would be enabled after updating firmware right(We observed this in another system where after updating firmware we got the PTP HW timestamp) .

Attached screenshot of working and not working systems for reference.

Hello JoelNanthi,

Greetings!

Thank you for writing to us. We are sorry to hear that you are facing issue with driver installation for your E810-C Ethernet Card. We have reviewed the images that you have shared. We recommend that you Uninstall/remove any and every file associated with the driver 1.14.9 in the affected system. Post that we request you to attempt the installation again.

Please ensure that the driver file downloaded is the complete file.

Post installation, please reboot and see if this works.

Additionally, we request you to share the below information:-

i. What is the exact edition and Version of the OS installed (In both servers - where the update was successfully applied and where it failed to apply and stuck on pending reboot).

ii. What are the server boards in both the servers.

Looking forward to hear from you. Thank you for choosing Intel.

Regards,

Subhashish.

I had also done a poweroff of the system and waited for a while and then turned on the system.

Hello JoelNanthi,

Greetings!

Thank you for writing to us. As per the latest update from your end, the data you have pasted from command lines, shows "up to date". Also you have mentioned that you have powered down the server and waited for some time before powering on. Kindly confirm if that "up to date" status is from the system which was working fine or you are referring the other server where the updates were stuck at "pending reboot" and now the issue is resolved.

In case the issue is not resolved, please share the below details:-

i. What is the exact edition and Version of the OS installed (In both servers - where the update was successfully applied and where it failed to apply and stuck on pending reboot).

ii. What are the server boards in both the servers.

Thank you for choosing Intel.

Subhashish.
