Windows 10 removes VLAN configuration

Had this happen on a couple of workstations recently. Both are running recent versions of the Intel drivers/software including the Advanced Services and ProSET. They are configured for two VLAN's and, in each case, after what I assume has been a Windows update, the VLAN configuration is completely removed and has to be re-entered.

Anybody else experiencing this phenomenon? It's rather annoying.

Hello OVERKILL,

Apologies for the delay on this matter. Please refer to below details for the update from our engineers.

We regret to inform you that this is an Operating System limitation since Windows 10 does not technically support Intel® Advanced Network Services (Intel® ANS). The only work around is to reconfigure VLANs once done with Windows update. If in case you have further inquires about the Windows validation, you may need to contact Microsoft for further assistance.

We completely understand why you’d want the VLAN to remain configured every after major Windows update as it is a difficulty to reconfigure VLAN on a multiple workstations and would take your time and effort. Unfortunately, it remains the fact that Microsoft does not support Team and VLAN configuration on Windows 10. As much as we want to assist you, this is already out of our scope.

Hoping for your kind understanding.

Again, our sincerest apologies for the inconvenience that this has brought.

Feel free to let us know if you have additional questions or clarifications.

Awaiting to your reply.

Should there be no response from you, I’ll make sure to reach out after 3 business days.

Hello OVERKILL,

Thank you for posting in Intel Ethernet Communities.

We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing issue with your VLAN. For us to investigate the issue, kindly provide the following information.

1. What is the model of your Ethernet adapter and motherboard used?

2. How many systems are affected by this issue?

3. What is the exact build version of your Windows 10 OS?

4. Can you share the current status of your workstations? Do you still encounter issue with your VLAN after reconfiguration?

Looking forward to your reply.

Hello OVERKILL,

Apologies for the delay on this matter.

Please refer to below update from our engineers.

Major Windows 10 updates can cause issues with Intel® Advanced Network Services (Intel® ANS) VLANs and Teams. This is not not a bug or Intel related issue.

The Intel Ethernet Team is responsible for validating and submitting new driver packages to Microsoft for inclusion on Windows Update. Microsoft does not support Team and VLAN configuration on Windows 10. Team and VLAN configuration for Intel Ethernet Adapters on Windows 10 is supported via our Intel® PROSet software. Intel® PROSet is not included on Microsoft Windows Update. Thanks you for being a valued customer.

Feel free to let us know if you have questions or clarifications on this matter.

Looking forward to your reply.

Yes, that's what I'd surmised, that an update wiped-out the VLAN config.

Will Intel be working with Microsoft to ensure that in the future, this won't happen? This was something that was never an issue with Windows 7 because it was so static, but now with 10 being this ever-evolving product, things like this can be a significant inconvenience.
