19V power for Arria V GX FPGA Development Board

The user manual for the Arria V GX FPGA Development Board states that the input voltage on the laptop style DC power input must be in the rage o 14 V to 20 V. However, Figure 2-11 of that document shows that the input connector feeds a LTC3855 switching regulator. That regulator can accept an input as high as 38 V. http://www.linear.com/product/ltc3855 

 Is there any reason that I cannot power the board with 28 V?

It's possible there are input capacitors on the board not rated for 28V. I'd stick with the user's manual recommendation, you should be able to buy a 15V power module on-line for a few bucks.

Agree with gj_leeson, you should stick to the recommended input voltage specs to avoid accidentally burn the board.
