Arria 10 SoC FPGA Development Kit Not Configuring FPGA on Boot

Hello,

I am currently working with an Intel Arria 10 SoC Development Kit https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/details/fpga/development-kits/arria/10-sx.html

After following the instructions on https://www.rocketboards.org/foswiki/Documentation/Arria10SoCGSRD#Creating_SD_Card

we are not able to get the FPGA to configure/boot from the SD card.  We have looked through the documentation both on rocketboards and what is downloadable from the board's website for solutions or to bring the board back to its factory state.  We have also tried to program on the USB Blaster and continue to have no luck.  The done light does not come on after Quartus (Prime Pro 22.4) says it has finished programming.  The JTAG programming light does flash very dimly while it is being programmed.

When connected to the USB UART, we are able to open a terminal through PuTTY, but are not able to type or do anything else.

When the board is turned on, the fan starts, the LCD screen comes on and the power light comes on.  However, no characters appear on the LCD screen.

We are currently trying to get the GHRD to work on the board.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Hi,

When you are using the SD card make sure you had checked below options as well.

First, confirm the following:

  • DDR4 memory card is installed on the HPS Memory slot
  • Micro SD boot flash card is installed on the Boot Memory Daughtercard slot

Then, the board switches need to be configured as follows:

  • SW1: OFF-OFF-ON-ON
  • SW2: All OFF
  • SW3: OFF-ON-ON-ON-ON-OFF-OFF-OFF
  • SW4: All OFF

Also, the board jumpers need to be configured as follows:

  • Leave the SD Card boot card jumpers placed in their default configuration
  • On the development board:
    • Place jumpers J16, J17
    • BSEL0(J3) = 1 (left)
    • BSEL1(J4) = 0 (right)
    • BSEL2(J5) = 1 (left)
    • Leave all other board jumpers unplaced

Also, did you tried with another SD card?

Hello,

Thank you for your response.

We have checked the options you mentioned, and the settings are correct.  We have also tried 2 different SD cards already.

Do you have any files that we could use, maybe via the JTAG interface, to program the FPGA and see if it will configure.  We have not been able to get the board to configure with the GHRD, and have not seen the green done light come on at all.

Thank you!

Hi,

You can use the .sof file from the A10 GSRD.

https://releases.rocketboards.org/2022.12/gsrd/a10_gsrd/

To program .sof using the JTAG, follow the below link-

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/docs/programmable/683819/22-1/programming-your-device-with-jtag-chain.html

Below Reference example-Intel FPGA Programmable Acceleration Card N3000

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/docs/programmable/683190/1-3-1/using-jtag-to-load-the-sof-file.html

Also make sure to check the default switch & jumper settings.

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/docs/programmable/683227/current/default-switch-and-jumper-settings.html

Let me know after trying above.
