Connection of Stratix 10 GX FPGA Development Kit

Hi,

I'm a master student participating in a project and I just got a Stratix 10 GX FPGA Development Kit from another lab in my school. It's my first time to utilize such kit.

I read the user manual and it says that we need a "Intel FPGA Download Cable II" to connect my PC and the borad. However, I didn't find the cable in the kit box! Instead, there's a cable called "USB to I2C Controller" from Linear Technology inside the box. But after I used this to connect, it didn't show up in my Windows Device Manager. If I want to use the board test system to make sure the connection run smoothly, can I use this cable? Or the Intel FPGA Download Cable II is essential to the connection?

Wish somebody can answer my question! Thanks a lot!

You just need a standard USB-A to micro USB-B cable.  Nothing special.

Thanks for your reply!

But I just tried to use the USB-A to micro USB-B cable to connect, after I powered on the board, my device manager showed that it detected an unkown device.

And I double clicked the "BoardTestSystem.exe" file, there was NO board test system GUI popped up. BTW, I'm using Quartus Prime Pro 22.3.

Do I need to do additional actions after connect the USB cable? I'm still a new user of all of this, please help me! Thanks!

Have you installed Quartus or the Quartus Programmer to get the drivers installed?

Hi,

Yes, I already installed Quartus Prime Pro 22.3. Attachment is the driver's directory.

But I think these drivers are for Intel FPGA Download Cable II, do I need to install them? How?

Thank you very much!

Standard Windows driver installation if you didn't choose to install/update the drivers during Quartus installation.  Go through device manager and point to the drivers directory.

Thanks! I just installed the driver and that "Altera USB blaster driver II" successfully showed up in my device manager.

But I still cannot open the board test system. I followed the instructions as this web.

Do I need an Ethernet cable to connect my PC and the board?

Thank you!

Now I use the older version, Quartus Prime Pro 17.1. When I open BTS, the system says "FPGA mismatched". But I can open the ClockController and PowerMonitor.

Here's the log file.

Could you please explain what's happenning? Thanks.

Getting the BTS to work is notoriously an issue if you don't use the exact versions and everything else defined in it.  I'd recommend instead just using Quartus and the Programmer.  The BTS is really just a graphical interface to program the device with the compiled Quartus project designs included in the download.  You can simply program the device normally with the programming files included instead of trying to get the BTS to work.

Thanks for update answer @sstrell. We have not heard from you, if you don’t have any further question, I will now transition this thread to community support. If you have a new question, feel free to open a new thread to get the support from Intel experts. Otherwise, the community users will continue to help you on this thread. Thank you.
