Arc B580 drivers issue after the official update screen colors are all washed out

Hello I have purchase a new Arc B580 GPU.

Is now installed all correctly and running.

With the standard windows drivers which do not detect the B580 card the colours on my screen are bright and nice.

I proceded to installed the latest driver from INTEL for the GPU as soon as is installing the actual drivers it changes my screen to black (I know this is normal) but then the screen comes back with terrible washed out colours which are terrible. All the colours are washed out and dull wich I have tried to correct with the intel's graphics software.

I have already uninstalled the drivers and again it goes back too the stock windows drivers and the colours are back to normal.

Now I want too be able to run the correct INTREL drivers for the card with the INTEL graphics software but it seems this drivers are faulty in my case.

Could I get some assistance on this items as I will return the card as it is not functioning as it should and currently is not wort it.

Again driver issues????

Thank you for all the help!

Hi Jorge_Loco,

Thank you for posting in the Community!

Please make sure you provide the following basic information when reporting a bug:

  1. What is the graphics driver you are using?
  • Confirm you are using the latest WHQL graphics driver available (let us know the exact driver version you are using).
  • A clean driver installation using DDU in safe mode is recommended. Follow this link for instructions.
  • You could also test using the latest non-WHQL driver. This driver goes through all Intel quality assurance processes and is safe to use for evaluation.
  1. Provide us with the Intel SSU report from your system.
  • If you do not wish to submit the SSU report then at least provide us with the following information about your system:
    • Processor make and model.
      • Power Supply make and model.
    • Motherboard make and model.
    • Amount of memory (RAM).
    • Operating System version/build number.

Hi,

I have now review the responce.

Also I have been able to resolve the issue by turning off HDR in windows.

As soon as HDR is ON the display becomes all washed out and unreadable.

When turned HDR OFF then it comes back all ok, so it seems that HDR does not work with the current drivers. Also I can confirm all latest updates and still HDR ON it fails to display properly.

None the less I have included the SSU report attached, maybe you can advise on HDR as it does not work.

Thank you,

JH

According to the report, the monitor runs at 144 Hz.

However, MSI specifies 180 Hz as the maximum for DisplayPort for the MAG 342CQR E2.

Are you running this monitor with a DisplayPort cable? If not, please note that the monitor is bottlenecked on HDMI.

Please check, if Intel Graphics Command Center is present on your system. Please use it to generate a Report for Intel Graphics Drivers and attach the output file here.

Unfortunately, the data is not entirely conclusive. Please run edid-test.exe:

https://www.monitortests.com/edid-test.zip

This will create a file named "edid-test.txt" in the same folder. Please attach this TXT file here.

Don't worry. This data is just encoded data of the information sent from the monitor to your PC: This is called Extended Display Identification Data (EDID). No personal data or other system information is read through it.

All,

Thank you for all the help and I believe I have resolve the issue.

It seems that if you choose the color depth to "10 bits per color" it some how limits the display refresh rate to 144hz

As soon as I choose "8 bits per color" the display refresh rate goes to 180hz not sure if this an actual issue or not but seems also that it should not affect the display rate.

So to summarize all the issues and their solution:

- Washed out colours on screen

HDR when enabled does not work and washes out all the colours, now running with HDR not enabled colours look ok

- Screen refresh rate limited to 144hz when display can do 180hz

This is due to the colour depth being in "10 bits per color" limits the refresh rate to 144hz

To fix the issue change the setting to "8 bits per color" and now shows 180hz

I have attached screen shots and also a new report for information.

Thank you all for the help maybe this will help other people if they have that issue and/or maybe it will help to ascertain if there is a bug with HDR in windows and limitation of bit color

I don't think there is a problem here. According to the manufacturer, the monitor features DisplayPort 1.4a HBR3 = 32.4 Gbps bandwidth.

  • 3440 x 1440 @ 180 Hz 8-bit (with Dithering) = 94% HBR3 (CVT-RB) ... OK
  • 3440 x 1440 @ 144 Hz 10-bit = 93% HBR3 (CVT-RB) ... OK
  • 3440 x 1440 @ 180 Hz 10-bit = 118% HBR3 (CVT-RB) ... NOT possible

The panel itself is 8-bit + frame rate control (FRC). If you have problems after activating HDR, please check if installing the MSI monitor driver can help: https://download.msi.com/dvr_exe/monitor/MS-3DB6-MAG-342CQR-E2-INF.zip

Hi,

Thank you for your help and responce.

As per your comment in relation to the drivers, I had already foresee this and installed the MSI drivers in the system previously so this has already being done and can say that definitely does not help. Screen shot applied of the drivers installed and I have double checked that are the same as you sent the link for.

Thank you,

Hi, Jorge_Loco.

Thank you for confirming and providing the screenshot of the installed drivers. I appreciate your attention to detail in verifying that the drivers match the ones provided. Your observations about HDR and color depth affecting refresh rates are valuable, and it’s possible this behavior might stem from hardware or driver limitations, or even a bug in Windows.

If possible, could you kindly share a picture of the issue, particularly showing the washed-out screen colors? This will help me to further check and replicate the problem for further analysis.

Hi, Jorge_Loco.

I have not heard back from you, I will close this inquiry now. If you need further assistance, please submit a new question as this thread will no longer be monitored.

By the way, I appreciate you for sharing the detailed information. It's great to hear that you've resolved the issue. Your findings about the color depth and refresh rate are very insightful. It does seem like there might be a limitation or bug related to HDR and color depth settings in Windows. Your summary and the attached screenshots will be very helpful for anyone experiencing similar issues.

I appreciate your effort in documenting the solution. This will certainly help others and could be valuable for further investigation into the potential bug.

Thanks again for your thoroughness and for keeping us informed.
