Hello everyone,
I'm having trouble updating the driver for my Intel(R) HD Graphics 620 (driver version 26.20.100.6859) on my Lenovo ideapad 320-15IKB. My laptop is no longer supported by Lenovo, and I can't update my graphics card.
When I try to use the Intel Graphics Driver Installer, I receive the following error message:
"An error occurred. Your system has a driver that is locked to manufacturer specifications. Download the latest driver from your system manufacturer’s website to update. Installer exit code: 1."
I've attached the error log for reference. I've also tried updating the driver through Device Manager, but it didn't work either.
Has anyone encountered this issue or knows a way to resolve it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

You often have to uninstall your existing vendor-customized driver package before you can install any Intel generic driver packages.
Here's a step-by-step process:
- Download - but do not install just yet - the latest driver package from the Intel site. Here is link to download page: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/776137/intel-7th-10th-gen-processor-graphics-windows.html.
- Disconnect system from Internet. Unplug your Ethernet cable and/or disable Wireless. Note: if using Wireless, it should be disabled in such a way that reboots can occur without it automatically re-enabling.
- In the Apps and Features applet, check to see if there is an Intel HD Graphics or Intel Graphics entry. If not, skip to Step 6.
- Click on the Intel HD Graphics or Intel Graphics entry and select Uninstall.
- Reboot the system, keeping Internet access disconnected.
- From Device Manager, check if there is an entry for an Intel Graphics adapter in the Display Adapters category. If you see only the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, skip to Step 10.
- Right-click on the entry for the Intel Graphics adapter and select Uninstall Device. Checkmark Delete the driver software for this device and then click on the Uninstall button.
- Repeat step 7 until the entry for an Intel Graphics adapter entry no longer appears in the Display Adapters category or the option to Delete the driver software for this device is greyed out.
- Go back to Step 5.
- Install the new driver package that you downloaded in Step 1.
- Reboot the system.
- Reconnect Internet access.
- Test.
Depending upon the history of your Windows/Drivers installation, it may take multiple uninstall (and reboot) cycles to clean out the old installations, so don’t give up on the process. If you get to, say, 10 cycles, stop there and attempt the installation of the downloaded driver package.
Hope this helps,
