Intel UHD Graphics 770 driver and Dell UP2414Q 4K monitor

Could you please help me. When I connect via Display Port Dell UP2414Q monitor it operates OK at 4K with the refresh rate 30HZ. When I enable in the monitor menu DP1.2 setting (to set the monitor to 60HZ refresh rate, as per monitor manual), the screen splits into two separate sections in reverse order, and as for Windows 11 Pro settings, the monitor operates with the refresh rate 60HZ.

I believe the problem is with the Intel graphics driver or motherboard graphics settings, because when I connect the very same monitor to the display port output of Nvidia 1080TI card, the monitor operates at 4K 60HZ  with no problem - no split into half screen.

I have the following hardware: Intel Core i9-12900K, Asus ROG STRIX Z690-G Gaming Wi-Fi motherboard, Windows 11 Pro 64 bit, and graphics driver Version 30.0.101.1069 of 11/2/2021.

Might be I am wrong, and there are some settings in BIOS of my motherboard to properly set up the display port output of my motherboard? I was trying to find, but could not find such settings.

Thank you for posting on the Intel®️ communities. In order to have a better understanding of the issue, please share with us the following information: 


  1. Was it working before?
  2. Have you tried different ports?
  3. Have you tried different cables?
  4. Have you checked the issue with the OEM?
  5. Picture of the issue.
  6. Graphics report, open the Intel® Graphics Command Center (IGCC), in order to get please open IGCC, go to the support tab, select system diagnostic, click "generate report", save the file and attach it to your response. 


Also, please download and install the Intel®️ System Support Utility (Intel®️ SSU):

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility-for-Windows- 

Open the application and select "Everything" click on "Scan" to see the system and device information. By default, Intel®️ SSU will take you to the "Summary View". Click on the menu where it says "Summary" to change to "Detailed View".  

Click on "Next", save the report and attach it to your response.

Hello,
There are two more computers in my house, one running with Nvidia Volta
graphics card under Ubuntu 18.04 and this monitor Dell UP2414Q operates at 4K
resolution 60 HZ refresh rate with no problems which-soever. It was connected
to mini display port of the monitor, and the other computer was connected to
standard display port of the same monitor simultaneously. The second computer
was running with Nvidia 1080 TI card under Windows 8.1 64 bit at 4K
resolution 60 HZ refresh rate with no problems which-soever.
1) With this computer - no, in 4K 60 HZ refresh rate
2) On the computer I tried the only port - Display port, as the monitor in
question has two display ports, which are both capable of 4K 60 HZ refresh rate
and one HDMI port version 1.3 which is only capable of 4K 30 HZ refresh rate.
I tried both ports on the monitor, the same result.
3) No, I used the very same cables which were supplied with the monitor, but I
used the very same cables on my other computers with Nvidia cards and this
monitor, which operated perfectly at 4K 60 HZ refresh rate.
4) No, as I assembled it myself.
5) I am attaching the pictures of the issue and reports as well.
6) I am generating two versions of each report - at 4K 30 HZ and at 4K 60 HZ
7) I am attaching a detailed information regarding the model and firmware
of the monitor

PS With this monitor in order to enable 4K 60 HZ refresh rate mode it is
necessary to enable DP 1.2 function in the menu bar of the monitor.
In the manual to this monitor is written, that in order to operate correctly
at 4K 60HZ the graphics card should correctly implement MST mode. In 60Hz
Display-Port 1.2 mode, the display uses "multi-stream transport" mode.
This effectively splits the video between two channels on the computer, and
rejoins them on the monitor. This is necessary because a single display
stream transport provides insufficient bandwidth to send the full frame
buffer 60 times per second.
This is one monitor, but actually inside it consists of two monitors, hence
the requirement for MST mode.

Hello Vitali, 


We recommend performing a clean install of the latest graphics drivers. Follow these steps:


Check Windows* updates:


• Click the Windows Start button. 

• Click the search and type Windows updates and click on that option.

• Select Check for Updates and ensure you have the latest Windows* version. 


Clean installation of the Graphics Driver:


1- Download the latest driver from our download center and save the installer on the computer.

2- Disconnect from the internet to make sure the driver will not be automatically updated by Windows.

3- Uninstall the Intel Graphics driver. To do this, please follow the steps on the link below under these sections:

4- Restart the computer.

5- Right-click the Windows Start button. Select Device Manager.

6- If no older drivers are stored in the system, the graphics controller in Device Manager should now be listed as 'Microsoft Basic Display Adapter', 'Standard VGA Graphics Adapter', or similar. If not, repeat step 3. Repeat the process until it is listed as 'Microsoft Basic Display Adapter'.

7- Install the latest graphics driver provided by the system manufacturer.

8- Once the latest driver has been installed, enable the internet connection again.

I did everything as instructed. I uninstalled the previous device driver (I had to do it two times to revert to Microsoft Basic Display Adapter). What is interesting, with Microsoft Basic display driver, after reboot, I enabled dp1.2 in the monitor menu, and everything operated OK, no split screen, but when I looked at the graphics properties, the refresh rate was strange - 64 HZ (not 60 HZ). 

After installation of the latest Intel Driver immediately the problem reappeared - the same split screen at 60 HZ.

Please try performing a clean installation of the graphics driver using the latest OEM driver, you can find it in the following link:

Also, be sure to have the latest BIOS, firmware, and Intel ME installed on your system, you can find all these drivers and downloads in the following link from ASUS:

In case after performing the updates the issue persists, share with us the following information:


  1. Are you using a straight DP to DP connection? Or are there any adapters in between?

Hello Josue,

1) I am using straight DP to DP connection, no adapters in between, and I tried both DP inputs in my monitor with two different cables.

2) Unfortunately I do not have another 4K monitor, I can only try non-4K monitor.

3) Today I first changed the resolution of my monitor to 1080p and switched the monitor to 60 HZ  at this resolution. Immediately the same split screen, the same problem. After that I again reverted the monitor to 4K resolution 30 HZ.

4) After that  I tried the following: I completely uninstalled Intel driver, and tried again with Microsoft Basic Display Adapter driver. Everything worked perfectly regarding 4K 60 HZ refresh rate.

5) After that I have installed the latest beta Intel driver version  igfx_win_101.1121. After the installation of the beta driver I switched the monitor to 4K 60 HZ . Everything operated perfectly with the beta driver for about five minutes. Than I decided to reboot the system, and again at the log in screen the same problem with the split screen. I reverted to 30 HZ with this beta driver and at 30 HZ as before everything is OK. I live in the Ukraine, and now it is late at night (time difference). I will try installation of the latest Asus driver tomorrow, but may be the information I had provided would help to solve my problem

Hello Josue,

I did everything you requested. With Asus video driver nothing changes, the same split screen.

Today I have done the following: I brought my monitor downstairs to my HTPC computer Zotac MAGNUS EC72070S with Zotac Nvidia 2070RTX super video card. This computer runs under Windows 10 64 bit. I connected it to display port of Zotac Nvidia video card, and it operates with no problems with 59 HZ refresh rate (I am attaching a photo). I believe the problem is with the video drivers of Intel UHD Graphics 770 in my new computer.

Moreover I found a piece of information at Reddit that in 2013 when my Dell monitor was introduced the very same problem with the split screen under 60 HZ existed with Nvidia cards under Ubuntu, and they found the solution (incorporating some changes in the driver), so that the problem with the split screen, Nvidia card and Dell monitor was resolved. But they did not discuss Windows, so I have no idea, if the same problem existed under Windows. But as soon as the monitor operates correctly now under Windows and Ubuntu, the proper changes have been incorporated.

The file for 30 Hz "Report - Monday, 22 November 2021 at 30HZ.txt" contains "Detailed Timing Descriptor" for 4K at 29Hz and 30Hz. File for 60Hz with the extension block "DisplayID" "Report - Monday, 22 November 2021 at 60HZ.txt" will not be parsed by edidrider.com. Problems are possible in the period between frames.

Hello Alx24, thank You for your help. I found in the internet the following information:

1) Dell UP2414Q is a dual tile display. Due to the MST implementation it is detected as 2 screens, each running
1920x2160x60Hz and then stitched together by the driver.

2) In the latest version of the Dell manual it is noted that:

NOTE: Ensure that your graphics card driver can
support DP1.2 with MST feature, capable of
displaying 3840 x 2160 at 60Hz and its driver
supports DisplayID v1.3, or the display may not
show correctly.

3) If I understand correctly, in order to operate as it should, the changes should be incorporated into the Intel driver.

4) I found out, that the proper changes were incorporated into Nvidia drivers several years ago.

The DisplayID standard began to be used as necessary to describe tiled display.
Corporations at one time announced their support for it, and it already has several versions.
Here, the beginning of Block 1 (zero countdown) "70 12" means version 1.2.
Here the DisplayID should indicate the coordinates of the two parts of the screen and of course, the correct one should be specified
the resulting resolution in the table "Supported Modes" is a standard common task.

Hello,

I was informed that in Intel UHD Graphics driver is used DisplayID2.0 version but I am not 100% sure about that.

The huge amount of EDID on the https://github.com/linuxhw/EDID shows that manufacturers of
displays use a very complex DisplayID standard to avoid problems for consumers only in
the most extreme case is like the EDID expansion blocks with the first byte of 70h, and the new version 2 has not yet been encountered. As is always the case, the first option is followed by a much more advanced second, but in the case of DisplayID between 1.x and 2.x, there are no radical differences and the field 0x12 corresponds to the 0x28. There are already beta drivers, but this may internally take some time. Information about new driver features is usually indicated in the accompanying information.
