Arcania / Arcania - Fall of Setarrif -> rendering bug

It's just the Intel d3d9 driver of ARC GPUs, with DXVK there's no problem.

Please fix (I know it's an old game that nobody loves but until now it's the only game having this kind of issue with ARC drivers :D)

ARC Driver:  lastest beta (5444)

Steam version of Arcania / Arcania - Fall of Setarrif (NO legacy version, the "actual" one)

Just launch the game, problem is there (black surfaces), no matter the settings (but if you want optimize some performance, please go on!)

*Intel i5 11600
*ASUS Prime B560
*8 GB DDR4 3600 x2 (16 GB)
*Windows 11 22H2
*Coolermaster MWE 500W

My thanks for the ARC project!

hi @hekoone have you try using old driver d3d9? Could be the game itself not support the latest script/update.

Just what i thought

No, but forcing the "very old" driver behaviour (->d3d9to12) with this:  https://github.com/narzoul/ForceD3D9On12 partially solves the problem but some black surfaces remain (and the game crashes to desktop). With DXVK the surfaces are correctly lit.

It's not an important game (2 games) but it would be nice to see it (them) fixed.

Hello Hekoone,

Thank you for posting in our communities.

Please generate an SSU report to help me further analyze important details on your system, such as the complete model of your discrete graphics card, the complete model of your system, etc. To generate the SSU report, please refer to the article How to get the Intel® System Support Utility Logs on Windows*. Please send us the generated SSU.txt file.

By the way, have you tried clean installation using DDU when you installed the driver version 5444? If not please try it.

We look forward to your response!

Thank you, and have a great day ahead!

Best regards,

Of course I cleaned up the D3D shader cache of Windows AND Intel drivers *AND* manually the driver store

It's just the game being an expected corner case (as Gothic 3 that crashes loading a savegame), all other tested games works well.

SSU down here, in attachments

Hello Hekoone,

Thank you so much for sharing your SSU and for confirming that you have performed a clean installation when installing the graphics driver 5444.

By the way, we will do further research on this matter and post the response on this thread once it is available.

Have a fantastic day, and thank you very much for your patience and understanding!

Hello Hekoone,

Thank you so much for patiently waiting on our response.

We would like to know what could be the problem or difficulties you are having that are preventing you from running this game on DXVK, which is known to rectify the issue.

The rationale behind this request is that allocating development resources to an older game presents certain challenges, particularly when there is an existing solution like DXVK. Gaining insight into your specific circumstances will assist us in making a case for developer intervention in this game.

"difficulties you are having that are preventing you from running this game on DXVK, which is known to rectify the issue."

NONE, just to have a native *Intel* d3d9 driver working in every circumstance.

To be more precise, with DXVK there are some foliage artifacts, but there are more solutions (dgVoodoo2) to run the game with no issue.

Another example: Syndicate from EA crashes after some seconds in game (not in the menus, in the game) and DXVK solves the problem. But a native solution would be more future (past?) proof.

Of course these are old games, so no need to fix them in near future, I'm just reporting the behaviour of the d3d9 driver!

Update (maybe interesting for the devs): it's a bug specific to the ARC GPUs+their D3D9 driver, I did just try with an Intel i5 11600 iGPU (Xe-based too, same driver package of the A380) and there's no bug.

Same behaviour (old Intel GPUs -> no bug / new Intel GPUs -> bug *with the same driver package*) in other games (in Halo Custom Edition the pistol zoom has a problem with the alpha channel and the layer used for the scope of the pistol, problem that is NOT present just using the iGPU)

Hello Hekoone,

We will now be closing the case. For additional information, please submit a new question, as this thread will no longer be monitored.

By the way, I just wanted to mention it again: according to our engineers, we will continue to polish DX9 compatibility but can't provide an ETA for these titles.

Thank you so much for your understanding.
