Major artificating B580

Hello,

I have recently purchased the AsRock Challenger B580 and am experiencing extreme artifacting over two games so far, Dyson Sphere Program and Cyberpunk 2077.

I have installed the latest intel driver after using DDU and am on the current motherboard driver as well.the SSU is attached (with networking removed). Rebar is enabled, power settings changed as well to L1 and  maximum power savings.

Starting with the dyson sphere program, I have narrowed this artifacting to the "Dithering" setting. Turning this on shows white squares around the screen that flicker in different places, which gets worse when VSync is enabled. Turning this setting off, the artifacting goes away. I do not know what Dithering is and will leave it off for the time being. See the png of the artifacting.

Moving onto cyberpunk, the artifacting is consistent, and one sporadic. There are three types, two are lighting issues, at least i believe both to be. The consistent issues is one, white circles that appear in clumps together, on characters and objects that almost flicker. The other is little black dots on the characters. The sporadic one, triangular lighting that appears across all objects, even if there is a wall in the way.

There is also an issue when loading, a black bar will appear across the screen for a brief second, and return to normal. I could not capture this happening. Did not happen with the 1660 super.

The first two issues noted, the white (look like stadium lights) and black dots on the characters, appear on every setting listed, ultra with or without raytracing, and on low with everything off. The triangular lighting appears randomly, sometimes on the lowest settings, sometimes on ultra, and sometimes not at all. I do not know what causes any of these issues. I thought the white dots were normal, the game was supposed to have them there, but looking at a benchmark test on youtube, there are none. I have restarted multiple times, uninstalled and reinstalled the driver, these issues still occurred.

I originally had a Ryzen 5 3600 installed, thinking this could have been the issue, I purchased a Ryzen 7 5700X3D, issues persisted after new install.

Screenshots are attached with all of these issues shown.

Is this a GPU issue, driver issue, ram issue? I have run tests on the ram and they have come back normal. CPU is normal. I have not switched the GPU out yet with my older 1660 super, that had zero issues.

Thanks.

(Edit, before installing the current drive after DDU, changing the graphic settings in cyberpunk would cause the screen to artifact. It was just in the settings menu, I did not test this in gameplay. installing after DDU seems to have fixed that issue, dont know if this matter or not)

Alright, the B580 is artifacting in Heaven.

I swapped it out with the older 1660 Super I have, did DDU and all, zero issues. It is now narrowed down to the B580. Took the 1660 out, reinstalled everything again with the B580, same issue in Cyberpunk, with new black triangle artifacts.

Anyone have any ideas? I dont want to return the card, but the radio silence is not helping.

Thanks.

Hello Grofree, sorry for the late response. I was looking at the information you provided and I didn't see anything about your power supply. We recently have another case where at idle everything was fine but under load, there was heavy artifacting. Turned out it was the PSU. Could you please share the information of your power supply?

Thank you! It is a brand new PSU, MSI MAG 750W.

AsRock responded, they claim it is faulty hardware memory and have said to return the card, but i want to be sure it is not a driver or other issue first.

Thanks!

Hi Grofree,

I'm afraid it's an RMA right before christmas then. 750W should be plenty to power that system, and those artifacts - while not as significant as I've seen before - just screamed beginning VRAM failure. I'd suggest you return the card then.

Just out of curiosity though - did the "stadium lights" you encountered match up with my capture?

That is what I am thinking unfortunately. I couldn't get the video to play so im not certain. These white dots are in small clusters of 4 to 6, they dont move on their own, they move with the camera over anything else, like the camera itself has dots on it.

Thanks!

Like I wrote, I couldn't replicate the small dots (= character artifacts) here. But I've got the "stadium lights" outdoors, as in flickering white filled circles on the palm trees where light refractions should have hit.

Guess the devs will figure it out though, hope my crashdump helps. Maybe you'd want to pump it up one last time and create such a crash dump as well?

And thanks to @Ernesto_C_Intel for keeping track of this thread.

Best regards,

Robert W. (bobbycold_h)

Edit: I've seen your screenshots with those white dots (and some weird light reflection on the edge of the pool table). Those definitely aren't supposed to be there.

As for the video, I had to record it using OBS, so it's AV1 I suppose? VLC should open it.

---

Edit 2: Ran your config in OuterVision's PSU calculator - there should be at least 150W of headroom. Guess your card is faulty...and the drivers might be as well.

Hi Grofree,

in regards to Cyberpunk I'm thinking it might be a driver issue - I could reproduce the black flickering on loading screen (had the bars before, but now just a fade to black for one frame) as well as the lighting issue in the outside scene of the benchmark when Path Tracing is enabled (look out for the palm trees).

What might be happening here is that the driver or the game itself enforces Path Tracing for the B580 no matter what the in-game settings are. As to the character artifacting, I wasn't able to reproduce that. Couldn't test Dyson Sphere as well since I don't have that game on hand.

Please note that I'm using an A770 though, so it's just some speculation the driver developers might find worth investigating.

Here are my settings as well as a video of benchmarking with and without Path Tracing as comparison. Let us know if these "stadium lights" match with what I captured here.

Best regards,

Robert W. (bobbycold_h)

Edit: I've uploaded an active memdump to the OneDrive mentioned above from running the benchmark when the lighting error ("stadium lights") was visible. If you'd like to also provide such memdumps, please continue as follows:

  1. Using RegEdit, add the values mentioned in this MSDN article (or use the attached crashonctrlscroll file, inspect it and if you'd like to apply remove the .txt extension after downloading it)
  2. Make sure you've activated "Active Memory Dump", see screenshots 2-1 to 2-5 attached
  3. Reboot your system
  4. Close any applications not necessary to run the game - especially any open browser windows, E-Mail applications or anything containing private information or passwords!
  5. Run the game with settings of your choice and start the benchmark
  6. Once you encounter glitches/artifacts - depending on your keyboard:
    1. Press and hold Right Ctrl, double-tap Scroll Lock (between PrintScrn and PageUp) or
    2. Press and hold Right Ctrl and Fn (Function key), double-tap Scroll Lock (between Insert and PageUp, toggle for Home)
    3. If none of the aforementioned layouts match, try finding out which key (combination) might be Scroll Lock by observing the LEDs on your keyboard - if it's got status LEDs, the rightmost should indicate that Scroll Lock was engaged. Refer to the manual if necessary.
  7. Your system will crash - let it finish generating the dump file then restart manually if necessary
  8. Once restarted, go to C:\Windows and cut the MEMORY.DMP file; paste it to a OneDrive folder or similar
  9. Post the memdump link here

Please note that these memdump files will likely approach 10 to 15 GB in size, depending on your system configuration and running background applications.

Aside from that, posting some information about your power supply would still be great, though I'd doubt a 1660 Super wouldn't show the same problems if voltages weren't stable under load.

Edit 2: The 1660 had a TDP of 125 watts while the B580 has a TBP of 190 watts, so the PSU could be an issue if it's been pushed to the limit already, especially given the CPU upgrade as well.

Hi @Grofree

I used an Intel Arc B580 with the graphics driver: 32.0.101.6252 and tried to replicate the issue you've mentioned for Dyson Sphere program. I couldn't replicate the issue that you've encountered with The Dyson Sphere Program

Allow me more time to investigate the issue with Cyberpunk 2077 and the artifacts you saw with Unigine Heaven.

Hi @Grofree

I was not able to replicate the artifacts with Heaven Benchmark 4.0 on DirectX 11, DirectX9 and OpenGL with an Intel Arc B580 with 32.0.101.6252 using the preset settings from Heaven Benchmark.

May I know if you have any specific settings that you've configured when running the benchmark?

Regarding Cyberpunk 2077, I'm currently checking the lighting issues and the black bar that both you and @bobbycold_h saw during this test raised and matching them with an B580, A770, and A750.

for heaven API DirectX11, Ultra, Normal Tessellation, stereo disabled, multi monitor disabled, x8 anti aliasing, full screen 1080p. The artifacting occurs in the cobblestone, appears as blue/off blue polygons that "sparkle" i guess would be the best way to describe it, similar to the "Dithering" in Dyson Sphere program.

AsRock stated to return the card, so I did. They stated it was a hardware issue, specifically the memory. Not sure if that is exactly true or not as i have not gotten another B580 yet. Hopefully they come in stock soon, and hopefully it was just the hardware on the card.

Thanks.

Hi @Grofree

Thank you for sharing the settings that you've used. I'm glad to know that AsRock has started the replacement your graphics card. Allow me time to replicate the settings you've mentioned for Heaven and simultaneously work on investigating the issue with Cyberpunk 2077.

Regarding the Dithering issue with the Dyson Sphere Program, I'd like to confirm if the Dithering and Vsync settings are the only configuration you've used to get the artifacts? I've tried using these settings previously and can't replicate the issue. Since I'm unable to replicate the issue with the game, I'd like to ask if we can close this concern and focus on the issues with CyberPunk 2077 and Heaven?

It is just the Dithering setting causing the artifacting, with Vsync on it is worse. But having Vsync on with Dithering off, it is fine. Nothing else besides Dithering was causing it.

If it is a hardware issue, which sounds like it is, I would probably just call it here. However, if a new card I get also has the same issue, then it is probably a different problem and I would have to overhaul the whole PC at that point.

Thanks!

Tested in Cyberpunk and didn't replicate the characters issue. The description of other artifacts in Cyberpunk aren't clear to me but I think I haven't encountered them either.

PS. Well right after posting this I think I encountered an artifact... but im not sure if it's not normal in the game (looks like artifact).

Hi @Grofree

I tried replicating the issue with Heaven using the settings that you've mentioned and I wasn't able to encounter the artifacts issue. Similar with the Dyson Sphere program, the issue is not present as well. Considering that I'm not able to replicate the issues, I'd like to know if it would be okay to close out these concerns and focus our investigation on Cyberpunk 2077?

Regarding Cyberpunk 2077, I wasn't able to encounter the artifacts on the objects and NPCs. I'm still checking the "stadium lights" outdoors, as in flickering white filled circles on the palm trees where light refractions should have hit and the flickering seen by @Ptage.

I'll provide you an update as soon as possible.

Hi @Grofree

May I know if you have already received the replacement graphics card and tried installing the latest Intel Arc Graphics driver: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/785597/intel-arc-iris-xe-graphics-windows.html

@bobbycold_h and @Ptage, it would be best if both of you create separate community post with clear steps to reproduce the issue (including graphics settings used in-game) so I can try to reproduce issues and address them individually.
