Hi
I received an email from Intel FPGA, stating my request to renew our department's 50 seat floating license for ModelSim was accepted.
In Intel's email I am directed to log in and generate a license file. However, when i sign in to the university program members site, and then to the Self-Service Licensing Center, there is no license file for ModelSim that I can generate.
I emailed the "fpgauniversity" email address to elevate, yet again, I am directed back to this Forum to post my issue.
Please advise asap.

Hi,
May I know previously how you get your license? You get license from distributor?
Thanks,

Hi Sheng,
Boy am I glad I submitted my request 2 months early!
I get our lab licensing by logging into the Intel FPGA website.
Like I mentioned in my original request, we have been a member of the Altera/Intel FPGA University program prior to 2000, and have been using Altera software since that time with different boards over the years.
Since Intel acquired Altera, renewing our licenses have been "not great" and I dread this time each year to be quite frank, due to lack of timely communication, and the fact it is midway through our academic year. I can remember when license renewals were requested and sent back with an email within 48 hours under Altera.
Since you asked, let me elaborate further, I sign into the Intel FPGA University program website, to access the Self-Service Licensing Center. From there, I would take a "new License" and generate a license file for the server hardware, and then apply that license file once received to our server.
Unfortunately, I do not see a new ModelSim license there waiting for me to generate a license file for our server. I only see a license going to expire on February 1. If the email stated my license renewal request I submitted was approved, should I not see a new license file listed for me there?
Thank You.
Sean

Hi Sean,
I understood your situation. Could you try to re-generate again the license through the SSLC site?
Thanks,

Hi Sean,
I had further confirmed with my team that if want to renew modelsim license, have to get from the Siemen Vendor. Can't be generated from SSLC site anymore. Now only can generate questa license from SSLC site.
Thanks,

Sheng

Hi Sheng,
So do i have to remove the Quartus Prime Standard 18.1.0.625 Suite, replace it with the latest Quartus Prime Standard software?
Will my current Quartus floating license be compatible after updating?
Or can i simply install the Questa component on what's currently there? I'm presuming newer and older versions do not mesh...
Thank You,

Hi,
Yes, you may replace with latest Quartus Prime Standard and use questa. After that download the questa license from SSLC.
Thanks,

You can't do that. There's compatible issue.

So here is my problem, because we don't have an extension to use ModelSIM floating license until our classes end in the late April, I am being forced to upgrade labs to a newer version of the Quartus prime Standard software.
I installed the Suite on a test computer, and the 23.1 version of Quartus still recognizes the license daemon running on the server. At least at launch, i have not tried to compile or download a project file to a MAX 10 board.
I ran the new License daemons on a test sandbox computer to see what to expect when i do it on the actual license server we have. I noticed on the download page that the new license server for Siemens, requires a change to a license file - changing the name of the daemon from mgcld to saltd, only for the VENDOR statement, not the INCREMENT statements.
So because even with the daemon changes just noted, can I still have a 'merged' license file pointing to 3 license daemons on the server?
Effectively creating a grace period to avoid disruption to courses by combining or including three vendor lines in a new license file ?
Quartus, ModelSIM, and Questa?
Thank You,

Hi,
Check these two KDB links https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/programmable/articles/000080515.html and https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/programmable/articles/000075002.html
Probably can merge but there're some keys needed to be noted.
Thanks,

I'm still not 100% sure I can merge the 3 daemons into 1 license file. The one article indicates its okay but I think it was published before the Siemens/Questa licensing changed from using the mgcld to the saltd daemon identifier.
Since it's the Server and Vendor statements that will be at issue, would these work in a merged license file:
SERVER <SERVER_NAME_HERE> <HOSTID> 1800
VENDOR alterad C:\IntelFPGA\alterad.exe port=50213
VENDOR mgcld C:\IntelFPGA\mgcld64.exe port=50214
VENDOR saltd C:\Program Files\Siemens\License Server\saltd.exe port=50215
Thanks!
