New build, installed ram and sata ssd. Updated to the latest bios using F7 method. In the Bios screen I can see the SSD under devices, but I cant select it as a boot option. Only boot options shown are 2 ethernet devices. Can anyone help explain what bios settings need to be adjusted for it to recognize the drive? Thank you!

I think, you need to install an OS first. Then BIOS will start recognizing it as a bootable option.

What if the drive already had an OS installed from another build?

Hi @BLamp
- If the Windows was installed in other computer (in other slot), then this SSD may not be bootable.
- First, please describe your configuration that we can help you:
- What model of SSD are your using?
- Was Windows installed in other computer?
- Was Windows installed with UEFI boot and partition or in Legacy mode?
- The Bios in your NUC should be set to default setting. With those settings, correctly installed Windows should be bootable.

Thanks, I appreciate your assistance.
The Model of the SSD is Samsung 850 Evo 250GB. Yes, windows was installed on the other computer in Legacy mode. I have restored the Nuc Bios to default settings but it still wont recognize the drive to boot.
Is there anything you can suggest?

Hi @BLamp (Customer)
- I don't have NUC8i7BEH so, I can't check it by my self. However in my NUC8i7HVK, I don't have in Bios an option for Legacy Boot and only UEFI boot option is available. You may check in Bios if your NUC can boot from legacy Boot.
- I suggest that you install this SSD in the computer where the installation was done and verify that the SSD is working. Then prepare full backup (image) of this drive.
- In order to enable your SSD to boot in UEFI bios, the partition should be changed from MBR to GPT. This is done very easy with mbr2gpt command: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-convert-mbr-disk-gpt-move-bios-uefi-windows-10 Ensure that your Windows is updated to version 1809.
- It is not clear for me if your SSD is mounted in M.2 connector or it is 2.5" type? Samsung 850 Evo 250GB can be each of this two types.
- If changing the partition to GPT will not give positive result, probably you need to reinstall your system in the new computer, this time with UEFI boot and partition.
