Does trim function in Intel MAS work correctly for Optane drives?

When using Intel SSD toolbox, it can not apply trim on Optane drives.

However, I installed Intel MAS (v1.0.5) today and found that it can apply trim on Optane drives (900P and 905P). Does this function work correctly?

Hello, CChen425,

Thank you for contacting Intel® Memory & Storage Support.

The Optimizer feature is intended for NAND flash SSDs, so this is not needed for Optane SSDs. You can refer to the first paragraph in the User Guide for Intel MAS (https://downloadmirror.intel.com/29337/eng/Intel_Memory_And_Storage_Tool_User%20Guide-Public-342245-001US.pdf) for further information.

·     Please keep in mind that in the case of Optane™ products (like your 900p and 905P), the Optimizer is not needed since this feature is oriented toward NAND based storage solutions, and your drive uses 3D XPoint™.

Windows 7*, Windows 8*, Windows 8.1*, Windows Server 2008*, and Windows Server 2012* have the TRIM command enabled by default.

If you're using Windows XP* or Vista*, the Intel® SSD Optimizer identifies deleted files, and communicates that information to the SSD. Intel SSD Optimizer is part of the Intel® SSD Toolbox.

·     For TRIM to function, both the SSD and operating system must support TRIM, and be enabled in the operating system.

For further information, please visit the Learn about the Advantages of TRIM and How to Use It with Your Intel® SSD article (https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000006462/memory-and-storage/data-center-ssds.html)

We hope you find this information helpful.

Best regards.

Hello, JoshB,

The SSD Optimizer tab of The Intel MAS (GUI) on SSD 905P Series shows "Optimizes Intel SSDs using Trim functionality. The lastest firmware must be installed for this tool to function. Click Firmware Update to check for the lastest firmware. Intel recommends running the Intel SSD Optimizer once a week".

If the Optimizer feature is not needed for the Optane SSDs, Is it possible to make the different description on the Optimizer tab and make the "Run" disable when selecting the Optane SSDs?
