I am currently on Windows 11 with modelsim version 2020.1. When I try to launch modelsim, I get the error "The application was unable to start correctly(lxc000007b)." I have tried updating my directx and .NET installations, restarting my computer and uninstalling and reinstalling, but I have never been able to launch the software. Does anybody know how to fix this?

Is this standalone ModelSim or the version included with Quartus? What version of Quartus are you installing? Modelsim has not been included with Quartus for a while (it's Questa now) so you're probably using an old version that isn't compatible with Windows 11.

I have the version of ModelSim included with Quartus V20.1.1, the install page is here: Intel® Quartus® Prime Lite Edition Design Software Version 20.1.1 for Windows. I originally tried downloading and launching the version included with Quartus 19.1, but that software had the same issue. Although I can launch Quartus just fine. I am using ModelSim since it is the version that I need for my computer design course. I could try Questa, but I don't see any indication that there is a free version for educational purposes. If there is, I would be open to trying it and seeing if it is compatible with my projects.

Latest version of Lite is Windows 11 compatible and includes Questa, free as it is with other Lite versions: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/software-kit/825278/intel-quartus-prime-lite-edition-design-software-version-23-1-1-for-windows.html

Hi,
For your information, ModelSim has been replaced by Questa Intel FPGA Edition, and there are no plans to fix any issues found in ModelSim.
To download Questa Intel FPGA Edition, kindly refer to the link provided below:
We recommend using Questa Intel FPGA Edition. (starter or non-starter version, depending on your need)
Hope this helps ^-^
