Booting NIOS II/e from EPCQ-L on Cyclone 10 GX Dev kit

Task:

I am currently trying to boot a NIOS II/e from EPCQ-L memory on a Cyclone 10 GX Dev kit and have thus far not succeeded.

Quartus Version: 20.3

FPGA: 10CX220YF780E5G

EPCQ-L: EPCQL1024F24IN

Scheme: Active serial x4, boot copier method

Current result:

Cyclone 10 gets configured with 2 blinking LEDs. NIOS should blink the other 2 LEDs and is not.

Resources:

- I have been following the "Booting from EPCQ" section (5.2.3) in this document

https://www.intel.com/programmable/technical-pdfs/683689.pdf

- I have also read from this forum post

https://community.intel.com/t5/Nios-V-II-Embedded-Design-Suite/EPCQ-Bootloader-problems/m-p/135060#M37244

My questions:

1.) Has anyone been successful in booting a NIOS II/e using an active serial scheme?

a.) If not, how can I get a clear statement from Intel stating that it is not possible? Multiple        people at my work have attempted this resulting in wasted time and money.

2.) Where is the HDL located that controls the boot copier?

3.) Does anyone have good resources for debugging/tracing the NIOS boot process?

Hi,

Sorry to hear your experience.

Let start with what are the other thing your observed during the failure Nios II Boot?

Are you using the XIP or boot copier method on the EPCQ booting?

Also, we have a design for Cyclone 10 LP, you may migrate it to your device and recompile:

"Let start with what are the other thing your observed during the failure Nios II Boot?"

I follow the instructions as listed in the document I linked above. The NIOS does not blink the LEDs as I programmed it to do. I have no other observations. If you have knowledge of how to debug further, let me know and I can provide more information.

"Are you using the XIP or boot copier method on the EPCQ booting?"

From my original post "Scheme: Active serial x4, boot copier method"

"Also, we have a design for Cyclone 10 LP, you may migrate it to your device and recompile:

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/design-example/714511/cyclone-10-lp-boot-from-epcq-serial-flash-example.html"

I will attempt to convert this design and use it.
