Why is the processor I5-14400 not included in the warranty for an additional two years?
Although it is among the generations vulnerable to damage in the short term

Hi I have that processor. I too wondered if my processor is vulnerable. I ask 5 people and I get 5 different answers so its confusing. Additionally i applied the latest Gigabyte Bios update (F11C) and still the numbers do not match the specs on the intel website for our processor. Its quite frustrating at this point.  However my machine is now two months old and runs very well with no issues and I will apply the BIOS updates as soon as they arrive. I guess that is the only thing we can do at this point. 

However, I have heard from others that the i514400F depending on the revision is either a 12th generation rebrand or a 13th gen based on the revision of B0 or C0 (HWinfo will show this information).  The 12th gen should be immune to this I think.  Additionally I have heard that this is a locked processor and less prone to damage. Finally I also heard that there are are no reports of this processor having issues and that the issue seems to be those more powerful K (i9 and i7) processors that have so many cores and can be overclocked and damaged. 

 

Since mine is two months ago and symptoms usually don't start until a few months of usage, I guess I will find out, but hoping the new microcode update will spare me the headache.

I have the same question.
I just purchased a boxed i5-14400 just before reading the news of stability issues on 13th and 14th gen processors.

So, I didn't installed it... Should I return it?

To answer your question, Intel is recommending all customers use Intel Default Settings in their BIOS setup. Customers should ensure they are using the latest BIOS from their system or board manufacturer.


The microcode update is currently under validation, including extensive performance evaluation. Intel will provide additional performance information when validation is complete.

Indeed, I am updated the bios to the latest version of 0x129
And before him 0x125
And the temperature exceeds 100 per time at times
My question is why the guarantee has not been extended like the rest of the one in the list of generation 13 and generation 14

As an additional information on why the i5-14400 is not included on the extended warranty is because, Intel analysis has determined the processors listed in the table below could be affected by the Vmin Shift Instability issue. However, this does not mean the listed desktop processors are inevitably impacted by the issue.

Thank you for your efforts to solve my problem

First, the processor was replaced by Intel last week

To which I would like to thank

But unfortunately, the heat problem was not solved, and with or operating the replaced processor, the temperature rose in the BIOS stage when updating the microcode X0129 because the motherboard purchased with the processor damaged the processor socket when it was removed before shipping it to Intel for replacement

And to my knowledge, after searching throughout August on the Internet

I learned that the stock cooler included with the processor will not succeed in cooling the processor

I bought a Noctua NH-D12L cooler for $112

And this is what solved the heat problem, and the maximum temperature was 70 degrees Celsius when pressed

I spent a total of $345 because of this processor

Motherboard + RAM + cooler

For this reason, I am requesting an extension of the warranty period to five years instead of three years

I received an update from our team and your request for warranty extension is denied, but since you are having issues with the stock cooler, I would like to investigate this issue. For us to address it properly, please share the details below.

 

1. Does the high temperature only occur when performing specific tasks?

2. Are the cooler and heatsink properly installed?

3. Did the issue start right after you set up the computer?

 

Additionally, while the maximum temperature for the processor is 100°C, it is not normal for the temperature to exceed this limit even when idle. This is why we are asking these additional questions.

I am sorry to hear that the five-year warranty extension was rejected.

I hope the support team will review their decision again.

First reason
Since this is the 14th generation and the 13th generation
When looking at the table that extended the processor warranty to two additional years, we will find that all processors were listed without K except for this processor

Second reason
When the processor was replaced, I had purchased a professional cooler Noctua NH-D12L $112
And when setting up the computer and installing the stock cooler
The temperature rose in BIOS mode at the time of updating the BIOS, the stock cooler was immediately removed and the Noctua NH-D12L cooler was installed

Of course, the installation was done in the correct way and the four cooler legs were checked to be level behind the motherboard

Now, after the Noctua NH-D12L professional cooler, I have no heat problem, whether in the ide or the pressure. Maximum temperature

you use the new cooler that was sent along with the replacement processor?

Yes, I used it for only 15 minutes and it failed to dissipate heat and a warning appeared in the BIOS

Sir, i have i5 13500  processor  with Gigabyte B760M DS3H AX ,  4 x 16GB ram memory  5600MHz   XMP  enabled to 5600mhz.

Currently i updated bios on 9th August 2024 from gigabyte, but intel default settings  not appeared in Bios, microcode  neither 0x129 nor 0x125 updated ,

Processor current  microcode is 0 x 35, stepping is C0 , current voltage is 1.326 in  bios, current processor temparature is 38* C in bios

I asked gigabyte support, but they ask intel only

Will you tell me , why microcode 0x125 or 0x129 is not updated  to  i5 -13500

The microcode 0x125 and 0x129 is loaded only on the affected platforms. 

 

Processor current  microcode is 0 x 35 [...]


0x36 (updated by the OS) is the latest version for this CPU.

I received an update from our team and we would like to gather more information about the issue that you are having with the stock cooler. Please provide the information below so we could continue with the investigation.

 

1. Generate System Support Utility (SSU) report - How to get the Intel® System Support Utility Logs on Windows*

2. Please take a photo of the stock cooler where we can see the SN and PN - Identify Fan Numbers for Intel® Boxed Processors

3. Markings of the processor (Serial number and Batch number) - Where to Find Intel® Boxed Processor Serial Numbers (FPO and ATPO)

 

Additionally, we would like to ask some questions for us to address this correctly moving forward.

 

1. You previously mentioned that there is a damaged socket, may we know if it is working properly? Can we have a photo of it?

2. You also mentioned that the overheating mostly happened after updating the BIOS, does that mean that other BIOS versions are working fine? If yes, please provide which BIOS version was the one without issue.

3. Have you tried using another motherboard or processor?
