I know this is possibly one of the worst questions ever made, but I have a Acer Aspire 5740G with a Intel Core i5 M480 and when I remove the heat sink there is a squared plastic on the processor. What is that?Is it obligatory for it to be there or can I remove it?

Hi nelson916 ,

This is not a bad question and I will like to clarify this for you. What you see there is not a plastic piece what you see is the actual CPU. There is nothing else to remove beyond this point.

I found an article that explains the parts of the CPU.
