Deleting non-OS RAID volume crashes system and won't reboot

Windows 10 latest patches, 3 RAID volumes defined in the Intel BIOS utility, none are OS just data.  I need to delete one RAID volume that currently has no data on it, and is unconfigured in Disk Management.  I want to get the 2 disk drives back to JBOD, and keep the other two RAID volumes as is.

Problem is if I use the Windows IRST app to delete that RAID volume the system instantly crashes to BSOD, and BSOD on reboot.  Also tried making the 2 disks non-RAID in the BIOS Intel RAID utility, but system BSOD on boot.  If I re-configure those drives as RAID in BIOS it boots fine again.

I can provide some BIOS configuration screens if needed, it's an older ASROCK mobo.

Re-installing Windows would be an ultimate last resort.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Update:  Never found a solution.  I discovered if I physically removed the drives the system boots fine.  So I'm using them as external USB drives for now.  Odd that Intel RAID makes it so difficult/impossible to delete a volume.

Hi jbombadil,

Thank you for posting to the community.

To further investigate this situation allow me to ask you some question to determine some information.

  1. Can you tell me what type of RAID you are using?
  2. What is the version of Intel Rapid Storage Technology you are using?
  3. Also, can you provide screenshot of your BIOS configuration
  4. Are you using desktop or server?

This will help me identify the best possible resolution to your situation. I am looking forward hearing from you.
