Rapid storage Vmd 20.0.0.1038.3 Issue with Win10 PE 10.0.18362.1

Hi so I have a windows 10 PE Wim file the version of PE is 10.0.18362.1.

The model of laptop we are having issues with the raid control driver is a Dell latitude 5450. It has intel 13gen processor.

So we have injected the current Wim with the most current version of the VMD raid controller driver. 20.0.0.1038.3 is the version we are using.

I know this works with the model of laptop as we were able to have raid on and use the load driver method on install. Our Pe environment does show the correct driver is already installed but we have no hard drive available when we load our PE to launch our imaging software. I tried to even manually install the drive once in the Pe environment and I get an error telling me it’s installed already installed 0x80070103.

Is there a compatibility issue with the version of PE?

Not sure what to do does anyone have an easy update path to just unmount and update the version of PE we have in the Wim?

Hello Mtavares,

Thank you so much for patiently waiting on our response.

Here are a few steps that we can take that might resolve the issue:

1. Update Windows PE: Consider updating your Windows PE environment to a more recent version. This can help resolve compatibility issues. You can download the latest Windows ADK and Windows PE add-ons from the Microsoft website.

2. Test with a Different Driver Version: If the issue persists, try using a different version of the VMD RAID controller driver that is known to be compatible with your PE version.

3. Check out our How to Enable Intel® VMD Capable Platforms for RAID or Intel® OptaneTM Memory Configuration with the Intel® RST Driver article.

By the way, if you have any questions, please let me know.

Best regards,

Hi In the process of updating to the new PE the latitude 5450 is working but this has broken some other models as I have also injected the latest driver for these 2 other models.  I also updated the Dell Pack A03

The model is Dell Latitude 5420 and Dell Inspiron 5402.

Any reason that the driver I injected will not load?

Just so you know, I also tried using the Dell a03 PE11 driver pack and that didn’t work with the 5450 which I had to manually inject to Make Work even though it has the driver in the pack, at least I can make this work now but the issue is it breaks raid drivers for the Latitude 5420 which now won’t boot after it’s injected or even with the driver pack. There is one other model given us an issue it’s the Dell 5402 Inspiron

Hello Mtavares,

I've discussed this case with our team, and we would like to gather more information about the issue. Additionally, thank you for your response. Kindly provide answers to the following questions:

1. What is your use case for setting up Windows PE with an Intel RST driver?

2. Do these laptops have drives configured in RAID? If yes, what configuration (e.g., RAID 1, RAID 0), and what are the drive models/capacities and the number of drives per system?

3. If the answer to question 2 is yes, did you set up the RAID with the OS on it or on a separate drive?

4. Do you have backups of important data in this setup?

5. What imaging software are you using?

6. Provide the Intel® System Support Utility Logs of your computer (if bootable). This will help us check your system configuration in depth. Please attach it to this post.

OK, so the old version of PE with the driver for that computer does not work we have upgraded are ghost solution Suite server to the latest version and have updated the PE to the latest version. The trick to making this driver work properly is to install the older raid driver first Into the Windows PE then last you do the New 5450 raid driver then the conflict goes away and our 5420 will now connect and 5450 we’ve never had an issue where we couldn’t all drivers after installing a new driver that’s not even the same model. I don’t know if this is a driver issue Or an Issue with windows. The example I can give you is if I install the 5450 driver first and then I try to install the 5420 driver 5420 driver will never work in Windows PE.
Dell has a PE pack that has a specific order you need to install the drivers I’ve noticed in their pack so that also works as well.

I’m just curious if there is a reason for that latest 5450 not working in the old version of pe?

May I please offer a bit of insight on this topic. I have looked at the signatures of the files in the driver package. And someone did not sign the .inf for installing it. Which means the driver has not been properly signed.

Hello Mtavares,

I'd like to inform you that we've reviewed your issue and need to gather more information to further identify the root cause. Could you please provide the following details:

1. Can you confirm that you obtained Windows PE from this link: [https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/manufacture/desktop/download-winpe--windows-pe?view=windows-11]? This is the link I previously shared, and we want to ensure it's the correct source.

2. Could you provide the SSU logs for each system and attach them here? The systems are:

• Dell Latitude 5450

• Dell Latitude 5420

• Dell Inspiron 5402

3. Where did you obtain the Intel RST driver version 20.0.0.1038.3? Was it from the Intel site or from Dell?

4. Can you share screenshots and the exact steps leading to the error you are encountering with Windows PE?

@Mikary31, thank you for joining this thread. We will look into the issue promptly.

I did use that version and the trick to make this work is the order of install you have to instal/ inject older versions first if the raid driver then work your way up or it won’t load the driver properly. The pe driver pack from Dell has it listed 1 2 3 4 which I did in that order and it works. Just the new driver isn’t compatible with the old pe we had.

I have also tried to download the driver off of the Windows update catalog. And the .inf apart of that driver is also not signed. So it will not install. From what I can see the last driver that installed was 19.5.2.1049.5. And the .inf is signed with oem6.cat for the catalog sinature. But not on the new one.

Fail. Screenshot 101237 is of 19.5.2.1049. Screenshot 101502 is of 20.0.0.1038.6 and looks the same for 20.0.0.1038.3 It is from the properties of the iaStorVD.inf file in the driver. I have read Microsoft's Driver Documentation. So, I know this has to be signed like the 19.5.2.1049, driver. Thank you for your help, by the way.

And it is not really cool, I had to go to Station Drivers for the 20.0.0.1038.6 driver. Should have been able to get it from your website.
