f6 floppy driver for ICH9M/M-E SATA AHCI controller

Since I still have a valid Windows XP Home license, in addition to Linux, I now want to install WinXP Home (=32 bit) on my laptop, but I cannot find an f6 floppy driver on the Intel download site. The manufacturer of the laptop (Compal) provides a.o. chipset drivers you can use to reconfigure, once WinXP has been installed, but no f6 floppy driver.

The chipset of the laptop is a Mobile Intel PM45 Express Chipset. The HDD controller is an ICH9M/M-E SATA AHCI Controller (also identified as 82801IBM, no RAID, sometimes as 2929). NOT to be confused with an ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller, which is a different controller. The laptop BIOS (latest version and earlier versions) does not provide for any possibilities to influence HDD controller settings. Linux uses an AHCI driver.

On the Intel download site, when I type "Mobile Intel PM45 Express Chipset" under "Search downloads", I get "No results found for 'Mobile Intel PM45 Express Chipset'" Not a very encouraging result.

When I type "AHCI driver" and "Windows XP Home Edition" I get 14 results. And I tried other search terms related to my controller. Be assured that I made f6 floppies of the resulting downloads where possible and tried them out, even though the system requirements already showed nothing like ICH9M/M-E, 82801IBM or 2929. The only hopeful downloads were:

- RST_10.0.0.1046_WHQL_RAID_AHCI_drv_and_GUI.zip

- 10.8_f6flpy-x86.zip

- iata_enu_10.8.0.1003.exe (contains same f6 driver as 10.8_f6flpy-x86.zip)

At least these downloads contained in their f6 selection menu "Mobile Express Chipset SATA AHCI Controller". However, when making that selection, the WinXP installer tells me it sees no Mass Storage Device.

Can anyone tell me what is going on? Is there really no f6 floppy driver for the ICH9M/M-E controller on the Intel download site? And why would that be?

Hi hasecomp,

I think it's a little bit tricky but you can solve your proble.:

Download the latest Intel Chipset Driver v9.3.0.1019 http://downloadcenter.intel.com/confirm.aspx?httpDown=http://downloadmirror.intel.com/20775/eng/infinst_autol.zip&lang=deu&Dwnldid=20775&OSFullname=Windows+XP*&ProductID=2300 http://downloadcenter.intel.com/confirm.aspx?httpDown=http://downloadmirror.intel.com/20775/eng/infinst_autol.zip&lang=deu&Dwnldid=20775&OSFullname=Windows+XP*&ProductID=2300

Unzip the file and read the readme.txt in the maindirectory. There is 8b. "Installing the Windows* XP INF Files Prior

to OS Installation" So you can prepair the drivers to your installation.

Or you can create a personalized setup-CD with nlite. There you can integrate the driver.

Another way should be to copy the files from the "All"-Subdirectory to your floppy and go on with your setup routine. I think you need the 945*:* fikes. They are for the 82XXX Memory Controller Hub.
