BMC LAN MAC Adress 00:00:00:00:00:00

Hello,

I have configured my BMC LAN for a static configuration using ipmitool. Once I was done I tried pinging it and didn't get a response. I noticed that my mac address was 00:00:00:00:00:00 but everything else looks correct. Has anyone seen this before or figured out how to correct it?

Intel Server Board - S7200AP

BIOS Version - S72C610.86B.01.02.0072.041620172102

Hello yn281,

BMC with MAC address like this is very weird.

Normally can be related to wrong BIOS.

The recommendation will be to run the latest https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27644/Intel-Server-Board-S7200AP-Product-Family-Firmware-Update-Package-for-UEFI-?product=87430 BIOS and if the problem persists will be to contact the support center to get the BMC replace.

If there is anything else we can help please feel free to ask.

Best regards,

I know, this topic is already six years old, but there never was a follow-up and I encountered the same issue and actually managed to fix it after reverse engineering a bunch of things and doing a lot of detective work. I wrote it up here in case anybody else has this issue and would like to dig into this.
