Out of our hundreds of S2600KPR blades, there were few S2600KP boards found. But trying to update the BIOS for it, fails.
The serial numbers of these boards are not usual like S2600KPR ones.
They start with SPRO0****** serial numbers instead of BQKP like our S2600KPR ones.
Well, I tried to update them from 01.01.0016 to 01.01.0028
This is what I get.
hostname /tmp/s2600kpr/S2600KPR BIOS v 01.01.0028/RHEL #./flashupdt -u /tmp/S2600KP_SFUP_BIOS01010024_ME030103043_BMC015111142_FRUSDR116/flashupdt.cfg

Update file Configuration: Revision S2600KP_116
FRU & SDR Update Package for Intel(R) Server Board S2600KPx (S2600KP_116)

This is the incorrect FRU/SDR package for this baseboard.
Error : Error while parsing the cfg file
While running the same one on S2600KPR works perfectly fine. The above example is I'm trying to update it to 24. Same happens with 28.
Let me know if I need to update any configs.
Thanks.

Hello sskamesh,
Thank you for joining the community
You want to make sure to follow the instructions exactly as described in this vide-tutorial. Intel® Servers BIOS/Firmware Update How-to Video
Been said that, it looks like the issue is related to the FRU/SDR currently installed. Could you tell what FRU/SDR version is it currently installed on the S2600KP systems? You might need to update FRU/SDR first, before proceeding to update the BIOS. You want to check this document: https://downloadmirror.intel.com/29893/eng/releasenote_frusdr_1.17.txt

Hello Jose,
Tried to get the versions of FRU/SDR through ipmitool.
But it doesn't work. Errors as below.
hostname /tmp # ipmitool fru
FRU Device Description : Builtin FRU Device (ID 0)
Device not present (Unspecified error)
Error obtaining SDR info: Invalid command
c2020b1 /tmp # ipmitool sdr
Error obtaining SDR info: Invalid command
Unable to open SDR for reading
Are there any other ways to get this information without involving anyone on-prem?
Let me know.
Thanks!

Hello Jose,
Not sure what you mean. I'm not looking to recover the BIOS. What is the relation between with what I asked and what you referred. BIOS is working fine. Why do I need to recover BIOS here? I'm just looking to update the BIOS and/or make the ipmitool work.
By the way, the reason I'm trying to update the BIOS, is to make the ipmitool work.
[user@hostname ~] sudo ipmitool lan print 1
Get Channel Info command failed: Invalid command
Invalid channel: 1
[user@hostname ~] sudo ipmitool user set password 2 thepassword
IPMI command failed: Invalid command
Set User Password command failed (user 2)
This is what I get during every ipmitool commands. This is not only on one system. This is on every blade with S2600KP motherboard, FYI.
Thanks.

Hello sskamesh,
The purpose of sharing with you the BIOS recovery procedure is to address your original question about not been able to update BIOS on some of your systems. When the BIOS recovery jumper is set to recovery mode, it will force the system to boot into its backup BIOS image and will allow you to run the BIOS update from a flash drive. Of course this will involve to be physically in front of the system.
If this is not an option for you, I can try to engage our senior team to check if possible to get any IPMI command available to gather the information you are trying to get. I think this article might help a little: How do I Enable the Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI)...
To check firmware version of the BMC
ipmitool mc info
Show field-replaceable-unit details
ipmitool fru print

Hello sskamesh,
I just want to do a quick follow up and also, provide a couple updates about your issue.
To resolve the error when trying to update BIOS, based on the download center, you need to update first to 01.01.0028 (which is the one used), then 01.01.0029 to have the latest one which is 01.01.0029
Intel® Server Board S2600KP Family Firmware Update Package for EFI
Also, please extract a SYSINFO or Debug logs. System Information Retrieval Utility (SysInfo) (intel.com)
We will look forward to your updates.

Hi Jose,
Yep, I'm aware of the BIOS version update path. Once updated on our end, will let you know how it goes.
We're looking to update FRU first (as you suggested), then the BIOS update.
Thanks.
