Migration to X25-M G2 from HDD using Windows 7 System Imaging Tool

Hi all,

I am planning to transfer my Windows 7 upgrade installation from my HDD to my new X25-M G2 using the built in system imaging tool. I've chosen this route since my licence is an 'upgrade' and I don't want to go into the hassle of installing WinXP first, plus some concerns over reactivation of the licence. Finally, this will save me from about a day of software installation torture.

Do you think a transfer of this kind can cause problems since two media are of different nature? My HDD is 160GB but only 30GB is used, my X25-M is 80GB.

I would be grateful if experienced users can comment on this issue.

Regards,

Koray

I had problems using the built-in Windows 7 imaging tool trying to go from a normal hard drive to my own Intel drive. It appears how much space was actually used was irrelevant -- it didn't want to go to a smaller drive / partition.

I'd probably do a fresh install to your new SSD anyway. You can clean install with the upgrade media without need to reinstall XP first, too:

Yes, this is what I wanted to hear. I will do a clean install.

Thanks for help!

Hi again, here is an update:

I installed Windows 7 upgrade version from scratch. As suggested earlier, the whole installation process (including my other software and documents) didn't take more than 2 hours in total. Windows 7 itself was installed and activated in 30 minutes. My major concerns were about activation since my licence is an upgrade, but no issues at all, automatic online update worked just fine.

SSD is a refreshing change! Thanks for all comments and suggestions.
