Hi,

How do I disable SMPS for e.g. AX211 in Linux?

Hi p4zkxvv,

Apologies for the delayed response from the previous message. I'd like to clarify if why you need to disable the SMPS within Linux? Are you trying to troubleshoot your network connection speed by configuring that the client always keeps all antennas active and the AP can send MIMO packets to the client.

I am interested in disabling SMPS because I'm sometimes experiencing slowdowns e.g. when I browse the web or download something the speed is a few Mbps (2-4) for a few seconds and then ramps up to expected WiFi speeds. This impacts the user experience as sometimes everything loads quickly and then suddenly delays when loading something. To be honest, I'm not certain this is even related to SMPS, but it certainly impacts daily usage - these variable speeds and from my understanding this could be some sort of power-saving feature newer chipset.

Hi p4zkxvv,

Apologies for the delay in my response. We highly suggest updating the latest and stable Kernel version 6.10 for AX211, firmware version 89. Here's the link for your reference:

Not exactly what I was looking for, but hey I managed to solve the problem by myself!

After doing some troubleshooting I identified that both of my access points were using the same channel for 5 GHz. After changing these to different channels, the disconnections, delays, and weird link speeds disappeared.

But anyway, I'm still curious how you enable/disable features such as SMPS under Linux.

It seems that i.a. SMPS is incorporated within the power-saving features, so by running the command below (I guess that the change doesn't persist across reboots), it will disable all other power-saving features as well:

iw <interface name> set power_save off

Unfortunately, I don't know how to turn off SMPS specifically..
