IPP 5.1 and 5.3

We are using IPP 5.1.1.005 in 32 and 64 bit versions.

We have a purchased license for this software. We asked you (Intel) for access to the installers.

Unfortunately you do not have the 5.1 installers and instead you provided 5.3 as a substitute. I find it remarkable that Intel should not have access to old software downloads. To have mislaid or lost them seems somewhat careless.

No matter 5.3 would do, but for the fact that the license key we purchased for 5.1 does not work with the 5.3 download you provided as a subsitutute.

Soumya_M_Intel shut a previous similar thread down as resolved but it is obviously not resolved because the software you have provided cannot be installed.

Hi Josquin,

Thanks for posting regarding the concern's status. We apologize for any misunderstandings caused. However, kindly note, we had NOT closed the thread on the basis of issue being resolved. It had been closed as the concern was addressed and had lack of viable solution with respect to that thread and a prior post thread.

First Post thread: https://community.intel.com/t5/oneAPI-Registration-Download/IPP-5-1-1-Legacy/m-p/1404597#M3333

Kindly note, version 5.1 is an old and unsupported version. It has undergone deprecation over time due to the lack of functional and security updates. Because of that, these version installers and resources get removed from the download repositories and our archives over time. Nonetheless, our internal team tried their very best and provided the version 5.3 (the closest available version), as an exception.

However, we will try our best to assist you if there is any possible option in our scope. For that, please let us know/confirm the below details.

  • I hope you are aware of the supported and unsupported product versions. Kindly confirm.
  • Our prior team member had provided the below Disclaimer while providing the download links. Kindly let us know if you had gone through it.
    • DISCLAIMER: This software is not available publicly for potential security reasons. You should not use this older software for production as they do not contain security fixes available in the latest 3 versions. This software is provided as-is without support. If you encounter issues with this software, Intel® cannot help you resolve them.
  • Our team member has already tried providing the closest available version. However, please let us know if there is any other version (than 5.1) that we can look for to assist you?

The details will allow us to proceed further. Looking forward to your response.

Soumya

Hi

Yes I have read and confirmed your details.

However the issue is that the 5.3 installers are password protected. You need to enter a license key to get them to install.

It's not about the version. It's about the password protection.

Surely if you have the installers you also have some kind of key I can use to be able to run them?

That is why the concern has not been addressed.

Best Wishes

Jos

Hi Jos,

Thanks for the screenshot. The term 'license key' had confused us. However, we understand the situation thanks to the screenshot you have provided. We have recently emailed the serial number and license file of your license to you.

Disclaimer: The software version 5.3 is not available publicly because of potential security reasons. You should not use this older software version for production as it does not contain security fixes available in the latest three versions. This software version is provided as-is without support. If you encounter issues with this software version, Intel® cannot help you resolve them.

However, please feel free to let us know if you require any other product versions (other than 5.1 and 5.3). We will do our best to find them from our archives and provide them if they are available.

Hi

Unfortunately the installere rejects the license file as invalid. This occcurs on both Windows and Linux.

To be precise...

It accepts the key. Then on the next page it fails to contact the validating internet authority, presumbly because it does not exist any more. So the alternative is to specify the lic file, but it rejects that saying it is invalid.

Best Wishes

Hi Jos,

Thanks for the getting back to us on the post. We understand the situation and therefore, had even checked with our higher team to find a way to assist you. However, kindly note, the software version is past its EOL and due to that is without support, as mentioned in the below Disclaimer. Because of it, the concern is out of our scope.

Disclaimer: The software version 5.3 is not available publicly because of potential security reasons. You should not use this older software version for production as it does not contain security fixes available in the latest three versions. This software version is provided as-is without support. If you encounter issues with this software version, Intel® cannot help you resolve them.

Note: The mentioned license is for the Windows edition due to that it is only compatible with Windows operating system versions.

Please let us know if you have any other queries or concerns. We would be glad assist you with it.

Hope you have a nice day ahead!

Soumya

Hi

I appreciate your help here. However let us review the state of play.

  • You have lost the original IPP software we purchased.
  • You provided a substitute but not the key that was required to install it.
  • You shut down our support request despite the fact you had not provided this key.
  • In a subequent request you provided the key but it did not work.
  • When we said it did not work you said that it is not supported.
  • And this took almost a month.

Your finest hour?

The problem that has arisen here is a direct consequence of other ealier failures at Intel.

The golden rule of APIs is that you never break other peoples code.

Even more critical - the golden golden rule - you do not deprecate functionaliity without providing a replacement.

We had had a big discussion internally and concluded that Intel is not a reliable partner. We have concluded that it is dangerous to rely on Intel for this type of service.

Talking about alternatives we came to the conclusion that the architecture that you use for your image processing inherently limits the optimizations that are possible and that thus our own code, if carefully written, should be faster.

For these reasons we will be looking at removing all dependencies on Intel libraries.

This looks much better. It works on Windows and I have just passed it off to be tested on Linux.

What is the legal status here in terms of our usage? We purchased 5.1 and now we have 5.3. Does our existing license cover us?

Also you implied at one point that the license we have might be specific to Windows. Is that true? Are we not covered cross platform?

Best Wishes

Jos

Hi Jos,

That's great news! Glad to know the installation finally works with the license. Thank you for getting back to us with the update.

Yes, it is true. The product license contains the Intel® Integrated Performance Primitives for Windows* only. The license would not work on different platforms such as Linux & macOS.

As much as we would like to assist you with the licensing terms of usage, we are not allowed to comment, interpret or provide guidance on the End User License Agreement (EULA) and how people use the product. Please consult with your legal department regarding it. Kindly visit the below link to find the EULA.

Please let us know if there are any queries or concerns regarding the installation. Kindly update us if the issue has been resolved. Looking forward to your response.

Hope you have a wonderful day ahead!

The original query was related to obtaining the Linux installers. So I'm not sure we are any better off. But thanks anyhow.

Hi Jos,

Thank you for getting back to us on the forum thread. We are sorry to know that the primary concern could not be resolved. Actually, the products for Linux and Windows are regarded as completely separate entities. The product for Windows would not work on a Linux system, however, much we try with the same license. As much as we want to resolve your concern, it would mean changing the full product that you had bought with the license; which is not possible. However, we appreciate you for taking the time to provide us with this update.

We understand it's not the same, however, we hope the provided product version installer for Windows i.e. compatible with your product license somehow contributes to your cause and purpose. Proceeding further, we are closing this thread.

However, if you have any queries or concerns regarding the same, please feel free to post it as this thread will no longer be in our monitoring scope.
