Hello Brub,

We would like to mention that the Dell* Wireless-DW 1703 wireless adapter is not an Intel adapter. If we understood correctly, you are planing to replace the Dell Wireless-DW 1703 with an Intel Wireless Adapter; if that is the case, please consider the following aspects:

- Checking the Product Page of the http://www.dell.com/us/p/xps-8700/pd Dell* XPS 8700 Desktop, it may come from factory with the 1703, or with an Intel Wireless Adapter. In this type of cases, we strongly advise you to contact the http://www.intel.com/support/oems.htm Support from the PC manufacturer, so they can confirm which wireless adapters are supported with your computer.

The manufacturers may add customizations to the computer or to the wireless adapter, causing compatibility issues if you install a different wireless card. In some cases, replacing the wireless adapter may have legal implications, regulatory limitations, or void the warranty.

- Intel manufactures a wide array of wireless adapters and most of them are meant to be installed from factory by the OEM's or by their authorized service providers. However, there are some models that can be used with regular desktops, these use standard PCIe slots, and come with external antennas:
