For anyone insisting on developing from Windows, I found a tutorial to install uClinux that may be useful.
http://famschmid.net/uclinuxtutorial_nios.html (http://famschmid.net/uclinuxtutorial_nios.html) It uses some out of date tools but should serve as a decent step by step guide.Link Copied

I don't suppose anybody gets anywhere with this guide, The Microtronix embeded Linux distribution for NIOS is not supported by anybody any more since many years. So you'll be completely on your own.
If anybody wants to create a Windows toolchain based on the current (as described in the Wiki) embedded Linux distribution for NIOS , of course this is possible, but he'll need much more information than provided in the guide mentioned (e.g. how to compile the gcc for Cygwin). I don't suppose anybody will do this unless he is payed for. Altera might have an interest in providing a Windows based tool chain to support developers who don't want to use Linux - similarly they provide the Cygwin based non-embedded-Linux stuff for Windows with even better support than the tools running natively on a Linux PC. -Michael
