On Tuesday evening I was proud to be in company of other businesses who truly care about having a positive social impact while also creating great products and services for their customers. Intel was awarded the 2010 Corporate Engagement Award from the Points of Light Institute in recognition of the dedication and positive impact of the Intel employees who volunteer in our communities around the world each year. The award specifically recognized the 1.3 million hours of volunteering our employees gave back to their communities in celebration of Intel's 40th anniversary.

The examples of Intel employees applying their skills to make a difference in the community are many, just recently the leader of a community organization shared that 7 employees, in one afternoon, crunched the data from their biannual survey of clients. The agency has previously viewed this data analysis as a tedious and time consuming chore, yet by applying their Intel skills the employees were able to discover trends and mine the data for new information - turning the chore into a effective operational tool for the organization "We were simply astounded at all the work that had been accomplished in a few short hours! At the end of the briefing, we had tears of gratitude in our eyes for the amazing gift they had given us and our families. They saved staff hours and hours and hours of work. But they also brought sharp minds, knowledge and experience to the task to develop program design and curriculum ideas that we never would have thought of in a million years" said the Executive Director.

Back at work, I'm proud to be in the company of our 32,000 active volunteers who light up our communities every day. This recognition is an honor for our volunteers. And for our company, who recognizes and supports our passion to make a difference. Keep shining!
