Meet Marta Navarro, a software engineer in the System Debugger team within our Intel Architecture, Graphics and Software Group at Intel Germany.
We recently spoke with her about her passion for software engineering and her transition from a working student role to a full-time graduate position.
How was your experience as a working student at Intel? I came to Munich as an Erasmus student in my last year. Intel offered a great opportunity to develop my career at a well-known enterprise working in areas related to my studies. That’s why I was happy to join the team. Luckily, I was given a lot of flexibility and was able to organize my time independently. That’s how I could combine working and finishing my master’s thesis.
What challenges did you face transitioning into a graduate position from having been a working student, and how did you overcome them?After working on high-level programming as a student, I changed to low-level programming in my graduate role as a software engineer. Now I develop certain features of the debugger with C++. I like this role as I can combine my knowledge of software and hardware in my job.
My team was a great support during this transition. They provided me with a lot of additional resources to learn more about my new area. I spent some time coding and studying to prepare for my new role and ramp up faster. However, in the end, it is just learning by doing and slowly growing into your new responsibilities.
What motivates you about your job?What I love about software engineering is the fact that you never stop learning. There is always a new challenge to overcome. And once I find the solution to the problem, I feel amazing and proud that I got to do that. I don’t want to work like a robot, automatically fixing issues I already know how to fix. My motivation is always having different problems and learning new ways to solve them.
How are you growing and developing your skills after graduation?I learn something new every day – it’s part of my job! We also have access to great resources via our online learning platform. In the future, I would also like to take part in Intel’s job rotation program where you support a different project for several months, work with different teams, and gain new experiences. This way you can try out something new and see if you like it.
What advice do you have for someone thinking about joining Intel?Go for it! You need to trust yourself. If you trust yourself, you can achieve everything.
