Thursday December 4th marked the official opening of the new Kildare County Council Leixlip Playground at Station Road, alongside a newly constructed car park.  This milestone represents a significant investment of €1,082,225 in the town's community amenities, reflecting the Council’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for residents.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Cathaoirleach of the County of Kildare, Cllr Carmel Kelly, local elected representatives, members of the community and Intel Ireland Factory Manager Joe English.

Intel Ireland supported the development of the new Leixlip Playground, helping to create an accessible and inclusive space for the local community. The support of Intel Ireland for this project highlights the value of collaboration in delivering high-quality local amenities.

The playground is designed as a benchmark for inclusive play, offering a diverse and stimulating environment for children of all ages and abilities. It features innovative and engaging play equipment, sensory elements, and accessible features designed to promote imaginative, physical, and social development in a safe and welcoming environment.

This project is part of a broader initiative to enhance community infrastructure in Leixlip, including:

  • The construction of the new playground at Station Road, with inclusive play equipment, sensory elements, and accessible design.
  • The relocation and refurbishment of the previous playground to The Wonderful Barn, providing an additional high-quality play area.
  • The development of a new car park at Station Road, incorporating state-of-the-art Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SuDS). The new car park is a significant “Pathfinder” flagship project, showcasing innovative Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SuDS)  features that manage stormwater runoff in a sustainable manner, reducing flood risk, improving water quality, and enhancing the areas overall visual appeal.

Speaking at the event, the Cathaoirleach of the County of Kildare, Cllr Carmel Kelly said; "This €1,082,225 investment in the Leixlip Playground and car park demonstrates Kildare County Council’s unwavering commitment to creating vibrant and sustainable communities.
