Recent changes in global shipping, trade and security have highlighted the urgent need to expand European chip and hardware manufacturing capacity. Intel is investing over EUR 30 billion in two state-of-the-art wafer fabrication facilities in Magdeburg, Germany, known as the 'Silicon Junction'.

To spotlight our commitment to growing advanced chip manufacturing in Europe and in line with this globally significant move, we’re highlighting some of the Intel Liftoff startups that will be immediately making use of this new capability in Europe, thanks to Intel’s commitment to nurturing these promising new companies.

Roseman Labs

Roseman Labs is a pioneering deep-tech startup specializing in encrypted computing solutions. Their platform ensures secure utilization of sensitive data, whilst simultaneously achieving unprecedented data-confidentiality guarantees.

Data ownership challenges within manufacturing processes often confine vast amounts of data to individual parties. Yet, optimizing yield and product quality requires the ability to link and analyze data across the production chain. With Roseman Labs, data sets from multiple parties are encrypted at the source and then safely linked for combined analysis. This ability to process sensitive information without accessing the underlying data directly enables, enhances and accelerates collaboration.

Founded in March 2020 by Roderick Rodenburg, Toon Segers, and Niek Bouman, the company has since grown to a team of 30 professionals, including 9 PhD-level cryptographers pushing encryption advancements at the very forefront of this field; ensuring the maximum impact of Roseman Labs’ Multi-Party Computation technology.

Roseman Labs’ platform also provides the capability to train and run machine learning models on encrypted data, which brings novel innovation opportunities to manufacturing. Organizations can gain accurate production chain insights by encrypting, linking and analyzing commercially sensitive data, without ever compromising confidentiality; enabling businesses to increase yield and quality, while collaborating seamlessly with suppliers and customers.

"When it comes to exchanging data throughout the value chain in the Manufacturing space, for example in the context of trends like Industry 4.0 and Digital Twins, there is often a lack of trust, and concerns about intellectual property. Roseman Labs’ encrypted computing is a key enabler for getting insights from the Manufacturing value chain, without the need for sharing the underlying data.

For us, Intel has been an extremely valuable partner in facilitating our mission, both through our participation in the Intel Ignite accelerator programme, as well as through the Intel Liftoff programme, through which we have access to Intel's technology experts as well as to their newest hardware technologies."

- Niek J Bouman, CTO, Roseman Labs.

BosonQ Psi

BosonQ Psi is exponentially compressing product cycles for manufacturers from the aerospace and heavy-engineering industries, saving them billions using their next-gen simulation platform, BQPhy®. The platform is built-in with mathematical solvers powered by quantum algorithms to make simulations 10X faster, more accurate, and cost-effective on today's HPC and 1000X on forthcoming Quantum computers. BQPhy platform is intuitive and would exponentially simplify development by enabling simultaneous solution exploration at scale.

They are currently employing a quantum-inspired evolutionary (QIEO) algorithm that has been shown to outperform classical algorithms as it achieves the most optimal results 5X faster on GPUs. Through BQPhy, QIEO is currently being used for engineering design optimization where the time for a design simulation is shrinking, enabling engineers to explore an entire design space that was not possible before.

BQP is also developing a quantum-ready solution for solving partial differential equations (PDEs), using hybrid quantum algorithms, on NISQ-era quantum computers and quantum simulators like Intel Quantum SDK. These hybrid PDE solvers have demonstrated high accuracy for problems in computational fluid dynamics, thermal analysis, structural mechanics, and hyper-scalability to perform simulations, previously prohibitive, accurately on quantum computers. This would significantly increase efficiency in the design cycle.

Tailored for industry-specific applications, BQP’s engineering simulation solutions intend to streamline design processes, minimizing product hang-ups during testing. Their vision for future commercial advancements in quantum computing will allow engineering teams to tackle complex design challenges and optimize the simulation and testing of new designs for peak performance.
