Intel and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have been partnering since 2006 to power every AWS generation with Intel technology. By combining Intel processor technology leadership with AWS cloud infrastructure expertise, we've created a powerful ecosystem that enables businesses to scale dynamically, maximize performance, and drive operational efficiency.

This week we took another leap forward with the announcement of AWS 8th generation instances powered by Intel® Xeon® 6 processors. These next-generation Intel-based instances available on AWS are designed to handle the most demanding data-centric workloads in the cloud—from AI and machine learning inference to high-performance computing (HPC) and advanced analytics—with greater performance and flexibility, all while optimizing for cost efficiency.

Next-Level Performance with Intel Xeon 6 Processors on AWS

The Intel Xeon 6 processor represents a major architectural evolution. It combines increased processor core counts, advanced microarchitecture enhancements, and improvements in memory speed, capacity, and bandwidth—all of which are essential for modern workloads that demand fast, efficient data movement and real-time processing.

AWS 8th generation instances with DDR5 memory at up to 7200 MT/s offer 2.5x more bandwidth compared to the previous generation.(1) This leap in memory speed, made possible through our collaboration, enables better responsiveness and throughput across virtualized and cloud-native environments, unlocking new levels of scalability and application performance.

Built-in AI Acceleration for Inference Workloads

AI and machine learning workloads are now key to business success. With Intel® Advanced Matrix Extensions (Intel® AMX) built directly into the Intel Xeon 6 processor architecture, these new AWS instances bring powerful AI acceleration directly to the processor cores.

Compared to previous-generation processors, Intel Xeon 6 processors with Intel AMX provide up to 2x the AI workload performance,(2) including inferencing, image classification, and natural language processing. By reducing the need for discrete accelerators in many inference workloads, customers benefit from simplified infrastructure, reduced cost, and faster time to value.

Enhanced Security and Data Management with Intel® QuickAssist Technology

Security and data management are foundational to every workload. With built-in Intel® QuickAssist Technology (Intel® QAT), Intel Xeon 6 processor-powered instances accelerate cryptographic functions and data compression, significantly improving throughput for secure data processing.

For organizations handling sensitive workloads or operating in highly regulated industries, this means faster encryption, reduced CPU overhead, and enhanced data protection, without sacrificing performance.

Joint Innovation

The work Intel and AWS do together is about delivering business value. We optimize across the stack, from hardware to firmware to software, to ensure that businesses using AWS can access the best performance and efficiency Intel offers.

We are excited to see industry leaders, including Netflix and CrowdStrike, testing and realizing the benefits of new capabilities(3) that the 8th generation of AWS instances deliver—higher performance, security, and AI acceleration.

Whether you're running enterprise workloads, modernizing your application stack, or developing new AI capabilities, the new AWS instances powered by Intel Xeon 6 processors deliver performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency to help you succeed.
