Dear Lynz/Admin
Hope you are doing good. On page 79. Table 8-5. of the below pdf, it states that VP9 encoding is supported at 720p. (Intel Braswell SoC)
http://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/datasheets/pentium-celeron-n-series-datasheet-vol-1.pdf http://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/datasheets/pentium-celeron-n-series-datasheet-vol-1.pdf
Interesting another vendor portwell (Braswell) listed their motherboard to support HW Accelerated Video Encode Profile - VP9 GPU-accelerated2
Can you please let me know when it will be available in Linux say via emgd.

Hello MichroDesignCenter
The Intel Open Source Graphic Drivers support Braswell and Skylake but only on their testing branches, you can read more about it on the following link: https://01.org/linuxgraphics/downloads/2015/2015q1-intel-graphics-stack-release https://01.org/linuxgraphics/downloads/2015/2015q1-intel-graphics-stack-release
The Intel Video Acceleration API (VAAPI) is used to support hardware acceleration on linux, but at the moment it doesn't support VP9 encoding/decoding. You can reach the VAAPI community to inquire about future support of VP9 by using the mailiing list or IRC channels. On the following page you can find more information about VAAPI: https://01.org/linuxgraphics/community/vaapi https://01.org/linuxgraphics/community/vaapi
Best Regards,
Adolfo

Dear Adolfo
Thank you. Sadly the community said VP9 may not be supported inspite of it being listed in Intel Datasheet. I guess its the same fate for HEVC for 5th generation Broadwell (even its listed as supported in the TPS)
