I have a spare laptop with an i3 and I wanna put an i7 chip into it. Are the chips different on laptops then actual towers ? Geek squad bum said it’s impossible to upgrade laptops but I think he just has a low IQ.

How would Intel know if your laptop can be upgraded?

You need to ask the laptop manufacturer what processors are compatible with THEIR bios.

Is your processor soldered to the motherboard?  If yes, then not upgradable (without replacing the motherboard/daughter card).

What i3 processor do you have?  Just "i3" means nothing as there are 12 generations of i3 processors.

How old is the laptop?   Too old = not worth the time and trouble and cost?

Hello, @Seekret:

Thank you for contacting Intel Embedded Community.

We want more details to have a better idea of the situation.

Due to this fact, we want to address the following questions:

Could you please let us know all the information about the laptop related to the reported situation?

Could you please give us the part number of the processors related to this?

We are waiting for your answer.

Best regards,

@CarlosAM_INTEL.
