I think I've been completely uneducated and ignorant about the i processors.....need clarification.

I got my first i5 in 2010. I have probably had 7-9 more since, and I always just figured that the new I'd every year were obviously the best, but I also thought it made the previous years basically obsolete. This is where I believe my thinking is aschew. My friend owns a gold n pawn . He had a yoga with an i5 8th gen. He was asking $500 , and I couldn't understand why. I get yogas are nicer all around , but I couldn't figure out why an old i5 would be worth so much. Well, if it was one of these:Intel® Core™ i5-8365UE Processor
6M Cache, up to 4.10 GHz. Why are one of those 8th gen $300 and these: Intel® Core™ i5-8500T Processor
9M Cache, up to 3.50 GHz are $85

Hello @weldphaser,

Thank you for contacting Intel Embedded Community.

I think you can try comparing them:

But both processors have some differences and also are aimed for different purposes. For example TDP, one is 35 W while the other one is 15 W, the less TDP may help in a longer use using the same battery, turbo frequency is higher in one model than the other and graphics frequency is different too, but I think you may have good results with both processors.

You can try to compare in the market for similar computers and check prices to have a better idea if the deal from your friend may be worth for you or if it may be best to look in another place, but I can recommend that if you buy something, it may be what you like better and if it fit your needs.

This is making a quick search in Amazon:

Or you can check for newer models:
