setting fix resolutions for monitors

Hi,

We are using three monitors on a Core i7-3770 with the intel Graphics Driver 9.18.10.3165

All monitors should display different content and the all have different resolutions.

Our customers are able to disconnect and reconnect one or two monitors during operation.

In this case the content from the disconnected monitors will be displayed on the main monitor, which I want to prevent.

Is there a possibility to set a fix resolution / monitor setup, which disables the automatic monitor detection?

The best would be to have a virtually always three monitors connected, no matter which monitor is plugged in.

best regards,

Lars

Hello moeller-wedel,

Thank you for contacting the Intel Embedded Community.

In order to better understand this forum, we would like to address the following questions:

Could you please tell us the part number of the processor related to this situation? By the way, could you please tell us if the affected design is your design or is a third party board? In case that it is a third party board, could you please give us all the information related to it?

Could you please inform us the name of the driver and the Operating System (OS) related to this situation ?

Could you please update the BIOS to the latest version, then try to reproduce this problem, and inform us the outcomes of this change?

Please give us all the information requested through the previous questions.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

Best Regards,

Carlos_A.

Hello Carlos,

thank you very much for your quick response.

We are using a Kontron KTQ77 Mainboard with an Intel Q77 Chipset. The Board has 3 Video outputs, 1 VGA, 2 Displayport. Each output is connected to a monitor.

The Board is equipped with an Intel Core i7-3770 processor. The OS in use is Windows Embedded Standard 7.

The installed graphics driver is the Intel Graphics Driver 9.18.10.3165.

The BIOS runs the latest version.

Probably I can solve this issue by using EMGD or IEGD. But I am not sure, which driver is compatible with the 3770 and how to set resolutions to be fix with these drivers.

Best Regards,

Lars

Hello moeller-wedel,

Thank you for contacting the Intel Embedded Community.

We would like to help you, but you need to contact the manufacturer of your motherboard to receive the further help because they have all the information related to their products. Also, to receive the further drivers, because they have modified the devices where the video, audio, or other features are generated.

In order to help you, as a reference please address your problem to the following web sites:

http://www.kontron.com/products/boards-and-standard-form-factors/motherboards/flex-atx/ktq77-flex.html KTQ77/FLEX

Intel can give you generic drivers, which are not guaranteed to work properly with your third party motherboard. In case that you need them please use the /www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect?iid=dc_iduu Intel® Driver Update Utility.

Please keep in mind that the proper drivers and support are provided by the manufacturer of your motherboard.

Best Regards,

Hello Carlos,

Thank you very much for the contacts.

Kontron provides us with a driver based on the standard one. The feature I am looking for is not possible with that driver. Kontron will only support their standard driver. Who could I contact to get information about the possibilies of the EMGD or IEGD driver? I think only when we configure these drivers correctly we can get the best experience for our customers.

Best Regards,

Lars

Hello moeller-wedel,

Thanks for your update.

You need to achieve two goals:

1. Three independent displays

The Ivy Bridge Platform support the following three independent Display configurations:

As you can see it requires two DP ports + a third display that can be of any type.

If the customer's board doesn't have the ports it will require, there is an additional option that is working with Hybrid Multi-Monitor Support: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/intelligent-systems/intel-embedded-media-and-graphics-driver/hybrid-multi-monitor-support-paper.html http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/intelligent-systems/intel-embedded-media-and-graphics-driver/hybrid-multi-monitor-support-paper.html,

2. Disable AutoDetect mode/or keeping fixed configuration

We have an option called Mode Persistence on the GMA drivers that can be enabled by the manufacturer on the VBIOS, however from Windows 7 onwards the Operating System overrides that setting, thus this is a limitation of the O.S not of the driver, Another possibilities as a work around are to search for third party multi monitor management software that offers the possibility to configure and remember the resolutions, and there are also some special adapters that have the Hot plug signals as always on to fool the system.

This provides more information about the AutoDetect issue on Windows 7: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-hardware/how-do-i-prevent-windows-7-from-auto-detecting-my/23efe7ec-ec71-49ff-aa6b-8b9e84fb6cc0 http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-hardware/how-do-i-prevent-windows-7-from-auto-detecting-my/23efe7ec-ec71-49ff-aa6b-8b9e84fb6cc0
