We maybe found the cause of our problems. We had a couple of machines transmitting broadcast NBNS packets at a rate of approximately 20 packets/s. After we disconnected those machines from our network there has been no problems with Intel network adapters...

If you are still having connection issues with an 82579LM or 82579V give the updated driver a try:

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=18713 http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=18713. This update was just posted today.

This package title says Windows 7, but the drivers for other versions of Windows are in there too.

I'm also affected from this problem. Windows starts up, network connection says "network cable unplugged", eventID 27 is logged to EventViewer. Occurs around every second startup. Disabling and enabling the device severalt times will make it work.

I'm following this thread for some weeks and tried the suggested drivers&solutions posted by Mark H. No success.

Current System:

Mainboard: Intel DH67BL

Serial: BTBL1330024M AA G10189-208

LAN: Intel(R) 82579V Gigabit Network Connection

Driver Version: 17.3 (download-version from webpage), device manager says 12.2.45.0 from 2012-08-10

OS: Windows 7 64 Bit (German)

Is connected to:

DSL router model: Fritz!Box Fon WLAN 7170, Firmware 29.04.87 (latest)

Art-No: 2000 2422

Could not find a hardware revision number

Tell me if i can help you by additional testing (drivers, switches, etc.) or providing additional information.

I was having a similar problem as others - resume from S3 sleep on my Windows 8 machine (x64 Asus P8P67 Deluxe) worked with the exception of my Intel 82579V which would not properly wake up. It would show in Device Manager with an explanation point. Scan for Hardware Changes would re-enable it.

Installed 17.3 drivers (which incidentally show version 12.2.45.0 in device properties with a date of 8/12/2012). Tried messing with various recommended changes. Finally in Power Management tab in the device properties, I disabled Energy Efficient Ethernet. 3 resumes in a row now and each has worked. SO now my Power Management tab has every check box in both sections unchecked.

Hope this helps.

What BIOS version is on your Intel® Desktop Board DH67BL? The latest version is 0156. You can find out more information on the latest available BIOS at http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=21483 http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=21483.

@Mark H:

Updated BIOS from 0119 (2011.0523.1030) to 0156. No change. The new driver 17.3 seems to make the problem more painful for me. Have to disable/enable the NIC now at least 10 times before it works. With the old drivers 3-5x disable/enable did the job.

I did some more testing:

- NIC works fine on an Netgear FS608 v2 Fast Ethernet Switch. Also working on a HP ProCurve 2626 Switch on both 100mbit and gigabit-ports.

- My business-notebook (HP ProBook 6450b) has a Intel 82577LC NIC. Problem also occurs when connecting this device to my FritzBox. Has an old driver (device-manager says 11.06.92.0 from 2010-04-12), 3-5x disable/enable makes it work.

- Have connected several other devices to the FritzBox and all of them work fine (Netgear XE104 PowerLine Adapter, Netgear FS608 v2 Switch, PlayStation 3, HP MicroServer N40L with HP NC107i Adapter, HP ColorLaserJet CP1514n).

- Rebooting the FritzBox gives a connection without the disable/enable-game. Problem occurs again after disabling the NIC or rebooting the computer right after the FritzBox reboot.

You seem to have done a good job of narrowing this down to some issue between the Intel Network Connection and the FritzBox. I do not know the cause, but maybe there is an advanced feature of the Intel Network Connection that is related to the issue. I have seen other reports here where disabling Energy Efficient Ethernet in the Power Management tab has helped with connection issues. If disabling Energy Efficient Ethernet does not help, you might want to try disabling other power management options.

Problem solved for me.

@Mark H: This setting was disabled on my computer. Don't know if this was by default or if i disabled it previously.

My solution: The FritzBox has an energy-saving function which should automatically detect if a network port is connected. If not the port will be disabled to save energy. I've set it to "always active". Two reboots and some manual NIC-disabling didn't bother me anymore

Thanks for your help!

@Matthias H

Thanks for the information on the energy-saving function in the FritzBox. Maybe a similar solution will help some of the other people in this thread. The energy saving features are important, but occassionally those features have unintended consequences.

Personally, I will take advantage of all energy-savings available except for situations like the one you encountered.

@elmar

The code 10 in device manager indicates an issue starting the device, so I'm not surprised that the things you tried didn't resolve the issue. Make sure you have the latest driver download stored on your computer. Something is probably corrupt in one of the files or the Windows registry. I doubt that this is related to whatever you are connected to.

Try these steps:

  1. Uninstall the Intel Network Connections software from Windows device manager. Remove all components including the base driver.
  2. From Windows device manager uninstall the network connection.
  3. Shut down your computer.
  4. When you turn your computer back on, Windows should find the device and install it again.
  5. Run the installer for the latest drivers.

I hope this helps.

Hi, Mark H,

Downloaded latest ProWinx64 Version 17.3, Date 23.08.2012

Removed in device manager the driver (deinstall and delete files)

removed network connection

reboot

Windows finds new hardware, 'ethernet' in device manager

Run ProWinx64

ProWinx64 displays 'repair' or 'remove' software -> remove.

reboot

Run ProWinx64

Installer found 82579V connection, installed driver, connection working ok.

reboot, standby no problem.

but, when starting after shutdown or poweroff, same problem.

link active, device manager Code 10. one time deactivate/reactivate solves the problem until next shutdown.

Is it possible that the problem comes from Bios initilalizing the adapter, as this issue is always at 'cold-start' ?

I have also reinstalled win7, nothing changed.

With everything you have done, I doubt that this is OS or software related. I can't think of anything else to try from that angle.

That leaves a hardware issue. This could be a power problem when you do a cold boot. That could mean a problem with one of the supply voltages caused by a hardware component drawing to much power on the cold boot or a power supply issue. Of course this could be a motherboard issue too. You might want to just stick with your workaround of using the Intel Gigabit CT desktop adapter.

Hi Mark (and everyone else),

I'm having a problem with my Intel 82579V in my Asus P8Z68-Deluxe/Gen3 motherboard. My machine wakes by itself when it is connected to my Netgear GS108v3 unmanaged switch but not when I'm connected directly to my Linksys e3000 router. This only started happening after I updated my Intel chipset drivers with this file: Intel_Chipset_V9301019_XPVistaWin7.zip

I fixed another problem with that update that was more severe so I'm inclined to stick with those drivers. In the meantime, I have my machine hooked up directly to the router.

I would like to get this issue solved as I might expand this network further. I know I should be using managed switches but they don't agree with my budget.

Do you have any advice to keep my machine from waking? I disabled the Wake on Pattern Match and also I disabled the energy saving features as you suggested earlier in the thread to no avail. I am running the latest drivers mentioned in this thread. I think the major version number is 17.3.

Thanks a lot!

Jerry

Try disabling Wake on Link. If you do not need remote wake capability, you can disable wake on magic packet options too. If that does not resolve the issue, try disabling all of the power saving options. If the wake up issue disappears with everything disabled, you can start enabling options one at a time until you find the option that is not compatible with your switch.

Mark,

I appreciate your taking the time to reply to so many posts about this topic. Unfortunately, I also find it unacceptablet hat Intel still has buggy hardware heading out to customers after almost a year and a half. This issue really needs to be resolved ASAP.

I have an ASUS Maximus V Formula (BIOS v0804) mobo with the Intel Gigabit 82579V LAN (Driver v 17.3.63.0) in a new build running Windows 7 Pro - 64bit. I'm connected through a wall ethernet port with a cable (both of which work fine on other computers) but my connection speed fluctuates below 500Kbps (should be 2Mbps up/down) and keeps dropping, especially during downloads. Wifi/Bluetooth is currently disabled. I have tried removing and reinstalling the driver, including using an older version and nothing works. The port always shows an orange light next to it so I'm pretty sure it's the hardware.

I do not know of an issue that shows up as a slow down, but there is a published erratum with your chipset that can cause dropped packets. See erratum 24 at http://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/specification-updates/7-series-chipset-pch-spec-update.pdf http://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/specification-updates/7-series-chipset-pch-spec-update.pdf. I am guessing that dropped packets and resulting retransmits might look llike a connection slowing down. I see you are using the 0804 BIOS, which appears to be the latest available.

I don't know about any major changes to the Windows 7 driver for your network connection. The driver seems solid at this point. I do not have any contacts at ASUSTeK Computer, but I suspect that another BIOS update is probably in the works related to the erratum. I would watch for a future BIOS update and give it a try.

Hello,

i´m from Germany and i have the same problem.

But i have this problem with two network cards.

First card: Intel Gigabit CT Desktop Adapter - PXE Version 1.3.21

Second card: Intel 92579V Gigabit Network

on FritzBox 7390 with firmware: 05.27-23565 BETA

My motherboard is an Asus Rampage IV Extreme, with the newest BIOS version.

I installed Windows 8 Professional and the newest Intel 17.3.xx Network Driver.

At this point, i get this problems on both! network cards.

I never get this errors before.

Now i use the 16.6 drivers and for this time i get no errors.

For now it´s stable within last 12 hours.

I only can´t use groups. :-(

I don´t know whats wrong, but i think it´s a problem with the new 17.x drivers.

I hope Intel can help to solve the problem.

Sorry for my English.

Hello again.

With driver 16.6 i have the same problems... :-(

But i don´t understand it...

Windows 8 works for more than 2 month with 16.xx and 17.xx Beta great and with no network problems.

I think since the last Windows update my network is not stable again and at this

point i get the problems with my network cards.

What is the problem? Can someone help me please?

For now i deinstalled the intel network driver and use the windows drivers.
