There are huge problems on repository
ppa:kobuk-team/intel-graphics as most of the time ppa.launchpad.net is down or incredible slow causing connection time outs. According to this guide Installing Client GPUs — Intel® software for general purpose GPU capabilities documentation and based on my testing, we have to use this repo as it doesn't work with
https://repositories.intel.com/gpu/ubuntu on 24.04 even though it works with 22.04.
You really need to either make a working release in
https://repositories.intel.com/gpu/ubuntu for ubuntu24.04 or provide offline deb installers. This is terrible development experience. I have worked with NVIDIA for years and never faced issues. You keep deprecating/replacing APIs/drivers constantly mixing matching them in various places and you are trying to make them modular, but making it worse as they are not interchangeable or compatible with each other. You have created unnecessary wrapper of wrapper APIs.
When I install OpenVINO from
https://apt.repos.intel.com/openvino, it doesn't install its dependencies which is another different repo. What a terrible developer experience is this?! You have to get your drivers and APIs mature/stable asap similar to media drivers and vaapi. Current process and roadmap is terrible for development.
When you install CUDA or NVIDIA drivers, you never face this. We are spending more time developing AI products with Intel.
I spent many hours to make compute for 14th gen intel iGPU work which is an old hw!
Now spending more time making Arc B50 Pro work even though I have kernel 6.17. You can't be behind kernel releases this much. If you are, then you can rely on kernel releases solely.
