About N95 and N100

I don't understand why Intel makes so similar CPUs. N100 has lower power consumption. There is also difference in graphics execution units and clock speed. Why to do these small differences, why so many products? Some benchmarks claim that N100 is little bit faster. Is this so?

You can compare the two processors here:

For the most part, the N95 appears to be the better bet. The N100 touts some faster speeds in some areas, both those areas have to be specifically written into the software to take advantage of those features, otherwise they just sit there.

Whats important are the base benchmarks without special needs, and the N95 steps a bit beyond the N100 in this comparison. Whats missing are the video comparisons, but according to other websites, and more important Users... the benefit to getting the N100 is better gaming video, otherwise the N95 in the various user setups show it performs well outside of game use.

Clock Speed means more to me, I come from the early generation of processors 286, 386, 486, and on thing I used to install in customer systems was a MathCo Processor. I up'd the ram as well... but what really made the obvious difference was the MCP that the customer could see as a good bang for the buck.

Power Consumption... I think the reason for lower specs, was to meet certain criteria/qualifications, perhaps in another country. Personally, I think it limits the processors ability. Kinda like fuel for the engine. Open those Carb Jets!

My final take is the N95 is the better processor, while the N100 was designed for other means, but needed to retain some punch by making tweaks to an otherwise weaker processor.

Here's a site that helps brak down most the specs your looking for.

@LBOCEAN  You think the OP is still waiting for an answer more than two years after his post?

Intel releases similar CPUs to meet different needs—like lower power use, slightly better graphics, or budget-friendly options. Small differences in clock speed or GPU units help users pick what suits them best. Benchmarks do show the N100 can be a bit faster in some tasks, but for most everyday use, the difference is minor. It really depends on what you plan to do with it.
